Welcome to the Rising Together Newsletter!

Rising Together is an online worship space and an amazing opportunity for community building as we connect with each other virtually across the country. Over time, we seek to build bridges with each other to help understand our present realities and also connect to our past and discover the rich histories of Black, Indigenous, and other People of Colour in Unitarian Universalist history. We aim to create a space of support and solidarity as well as of comfort and reflection through varied worship, themed discussions, and thoughtful interactions. Thank you for being here.

Next Session: November 20th 4:30-6 ET

In our next session, we are leaving space to talk about our relationship with whiteness. In reflecting on our where our lives intersect with whiteness, be it through family ties, friendships, or in our social or religious lives we all have an intimate and complicated relationship with whiteness that we want to spend some time unpacking as Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour. Especially in this time of great change around racial issues within our spiritual community, as we think and plan on how to more forward it's important for us to contend with some of the more interpersonal issues that arise for us on the day to day.

October Recap!

Last month we explored different ways of connected with our ancestors, our environments, and ourselves. We engaged in two separate activities based to engage our senses and find these connections, first through music and then through food!
As part of an ongoing musical DNA project we started to brainstorm our own musical histories and list out our personal growth through the anthems of our life. In time this exercise will turn into one big playlist that we can share to get to know each other better and further develop our connections as a community.

In that spirit, we also did an exercise exploring a food item we love! In this activity we took some time to think about a beloved dish and then spent some time tracking what we knew about the ingredients and techniques that went in to making these things. Whether they were recipes from family, friends, or that we found by chance and fell in love with. This will be another on going exercise that we will explore a few
times a year. Between you and me, I'm hoping to collect these as well for a virtual Rising Together cookbook.
If you decide to do either of these exercises at home, please feel encouraged to send us your playlists and recipes to share!
