Don’t love emails? We understand.
But here are eight things that WFU should know.

Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021

Members of the new University Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council named

On Sept. 21, Dr. Wente announced the creation of the University Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council (UDEIC). Today, she is announcing the membership of that council, which consists of students, staff, alumni and a University Trustee, and is co-chaired by José Villalba, vice president for diversity and inclusion and chief diversity officer, and Tracey L. Banks, faculty senate vice president and associate professor of legal research and writing. The first meeting of UDEIC will take place on Nov. 30. Visit the president’s website for a list of the current members of the council and the group’s charge.

Save the Date: Dr. Wente’s presidential address

At the invitation of the Faculty Senate and Senate President Matthew Phillips, Dr. Susan R. Wente will share her first presidential address on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021 at 9 a.m., in the Sutton Center. The address will be followed by a reception for those in attendance. Those who are unable to attend the address in person are invited to view the livestream of the address or find the recording on the president’s website. Please take a moment to RSVP or to submit a question for Dr. Wente.

Another reason to get your flu shot ASAP

We have begun to see cases of influenza A on campus. The CDC has warned that there may be more cases of influenza this year and these cases may be more severe. Wake Forest requires all students, faculty, and staff receive an influenza vaccine. While the deadline for students to upload proof of vaccination is December 15, students are encouraged to get the vaccine as soon as possible to decrease their risk of influenza illness. You can get your flu vaccine at the Student Health Service by appointment, as well as at many retail pharmacies (such as CVS and Walgreens), local health departments, and private physician offices.

On-campus COVID booster clinic after Thanksgiving

COVID-19 booster doses will be offered on campus Nov. 30, Dec. 1, and Dec. 2 for students; Sign up here. Because of our highly residential campus, most students are eligible for a booster dose as long as the length of time from your last dose meets the CDC criteria.

HEERF III grants

The U.S. Department of Education established the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) to provide emergency financial aid grants to students who experienced unexpected expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. These grants are part of the ARP Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF III). The University has prioritized extending HEERF III funds to eligible students with exceptional financial need as recommended by the U.S. Department of Education. Students with exceptional financial need who met the eligibility criteria received a message on Nov. 5 about their HEERF III financial aid grant (check your spam filter in case it went there). If you experienced exceptional financial need related to COVID-19 and did not receive a grant, you can apply for a HEERF III grant. Note that students must be able to demonstrate financial need.

From the Registrar’s Office

Registration Portal pro tip: did you know you can go to Advanced Search and check a box for Open Sections Only? Also, Friday, Nov. 12 is the last day to change from pass/fail back to a letter grade in a full-term course. Students should plan ahead and discuss with their adviser(s) if considering this option.
