Quote of the Week
"My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori" Wilfred Owen
Hi <<First Name>>,
Thanks to everyone who helped make our Trek for Timor event both an enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and a successful fundraising opportunity (see photos below). Donations are still coming in from the event, raising money for our partnership with Lafaek Diak in Timor Leste and we'll let people know the fundraising total soon.
Now that you've dusted off your walking shoes, we'd love you to join in our next event Hike 4 Humanity on Saturday 20 November at 9.30am! This 5km walk around the Canning River Regional Park is the launch event for our community campaign 'We all need our families', advocating for refugees on temporary visas so they can settle and be reunited with their families. Click on the event link to find out more, or go to the website - https://weallneedourfamilies.com/ to learn more about this campaign and other ways you can get involved - volunteers are encouraged to get in touch!
There are some helpful articles in the links below reflecting on COP26. We continue to pray for climate justice as our world leaders enter their final days of talks in Glasgow.
For the sake of justice and peace,
Geoff & Wendy
Trek for Timor 2021
It was great to see so many enthusiastic walkers and volunteers at our Trek for Timor event on Sunday! A big thanks to everyone who took part, and contributed to the positive atmosphere of the day. We were also lucky to have such beautiful weather!
A special thanks to the St Martin's Foothills Congregation for providing a delicious afternoon tea,and to the Kalamunda Uniting Church who hosted us once again at the starting point.
We were so appreciative of the amazing fundraising efforts for our partnership in Timor Leste.
The Uniting Church Synod of Western Australia acknowledges the Wadjuk people of the Noongar nation, on whose land our Synod office stands. We acknowledge their elders past and present, and their people.
At its 7th Assembly the Uniting Church formally entered into a relationship of Covenant with its Indigenous members, recognising and repenting for the Church’s complicity in the injustices perpetrated on Australia’s Indigenous community, and pledging to move forward with a shared future. Congress’ generous response to this statement, among other messages, called upon the broader Church to take up the mission of reconciliation.
The ongoing and continually renewing nature of the Covenant calls the Uniting Church to continually act to remove the systems and structures of discrimination and oppression in Australia. The Uniting Church works for just, inclusive and equal relationships, recognising the place of First Peoples in Australia.
