Haringey Festive Advent Calendar - showcase your business
Would you like to be promoted in this year’s Haringey Festive Advent Calendar?
In order to support local businesses recover from the pandemic, the council will be delivering a new seasonal advent calendar this year, to encourage residents to shop safe and local.
We would like to ensure that there is a spread of businesses across the borough this year and across sectors/product types to take part – so if you haven’t previously had your business featured by the council, Christmas 2021 would be an ideal time to be promoted!
The festive advent calendar will showcase 24 local businesses over 24 days offering special discounts, events and incentives throughout the festive period and into 2022. It will be an opportunity for residents to benefit from discounts and special offers that they would expect from shopping locally on the high street.
Business owners who wish to feature in the advent calendar should contact the town centres team by email at business@haringey.gov.uk
Please note that the deadline for submissions has been extended to 5pm on Wednesday 24 November.

Haringey Business Directory - register your business

Residents are encouraged to support their local business communities by purchasing online, by phone or in person.
List your business for free in the directory and join the many Haringey businesses that already feature:
The Haringey Business Directory enables searches to be conducted by name, business type, businesses near you, via the map or by town centre.
If you discover that your business is not featured, you can add your business for free to the directory.

New laws to resolve COVID-19 commercial rent debts
New laws and a Code of Practice are being introduced to resolve the remaining commercial rent debts accrued due to the pandemic.
The code sets out that in the first instance tenants who are unable to pay in full should negotiate with their landlord in the expectation that the landlord waives some or all rent arrears where they are able to do so.
New laws will establish a legally-binding arbitration process for commercial landlords and tenants who have not already reached an agreement. Subject to parliamentary passage, this will come into force in March 2022.
The bill will apply to commercial rent debts related to the mandated closure of certain businesses such as pubs, gyms and restaurants during the pandemic. Debts accrued at other times will not be in scope.

Working safely during COVID-19
Last week, the government updated its guidance on reducing the risk of COVID-19 spreading in the workplace to include additional information on ventilation in offices, restaurants, shops, hotels and at events or attractions.
The guidance provides information on how different workplaces can maintain an adequate supply of fresh air. In poorly ventilated spaces, residual virus can remain in the air after an infected person has left and increase the risk of COVID-19 spreading.
The guidance also includes information on managing risk, self-isolation, reducing contact for workers and equality in these workplaces.
