The Office of Liturgy has prepared the liturgy advisory for the Seasons of Advent and Christmas 2021/2022. The advisory includes important information and considerations regarding the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Solemnity of Christmas, the Feast of the Holy Family and the Solemnity of Mary. The St. James Cathedral Friends of the Music Ministry is pleased to announce the Candlelight Christmas Concert on Friday, December 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Cathedral.  The St. James Cathedral Choir, Coro Hispano and Children & Jubilate Youth Choirs will present music of the season.  Admission is free, and a freewill offering will be collected.  
Liturgy Training Publications is offering the third track of The Essentials of Catholic Liturgy training series beginning January 24th. To register, and for more information, visit the LTP website.

Thursday, November 25 - Thanksgiving Day
  • For Thanksgiving Day, use the reading of the day or any readings from the Lectionary for Mass volume IV, the Mass "In Thanksgiving to God", nos. 943-947. Suggested Readings: Sir 50:22-24; Psalm 138: 1-5; 1 Cor 1:3-9; Lk 17:11-19.
Sunday, November 28 - First Sunday of Advent
  • This Sundays marks the beginning of the new liturgical year 2022.
  • Lectionary Cycle: Sunday - Year C; Weekday - Cycle II
Wednesday, December 8 - Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Patronal Feast day USA)
  • The Gloria is sung (said).
  • The Creed is said.
***The celebration of the Year of St. Joseph ends on December 8, 2021***

Friday, December 24 - Vigil of the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord 
  • Vigil Masses for the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord may not begin earlier than 4:00 p.m.
  • It is laudable to maintain the proper sequence of readings for the four Masses proper to the Nativity of the Lord: Vigil Mass, Mass during the Night, Mass at Dawn and Mass during the day.
  • The Gospel reading at any Mass is to be proclaimed by either a deacon or a priest. It is not permitted to replace the appropriate Gospel reading with a pageant or portrayal of the Gospel. Such events are to occur outside of the context of Mass. 
Saturday, December 25 - Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord Sunday, December 26 - Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph

Friday, December 31 - Seventh Day within the Octave of the Nativity of the Lord
  • Vigil Masses for the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God may not begin earlier than 4:00 p.m. 
Saturday, January 1 - Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God

Sunday, January 2 - Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord
  • The "Epiphany Proclamation" may take place after the reading of the Gospel.  It may be sung by the deacon or cantor from the ambo. *See the Roman Missal, Appendix I: The Announcement of Easter and the Moveable Feasts.

  • Thursday, December 16th is the anniversary of the installation of Bishop John Noonan as the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Orlando.
