The Character Of God
The ongoing story of MCF that God is writing continues to amaze and capture the imagination.  Time and time again, person after person, experience after experience, the wonderful character of God continues to be reflected in unique circumstances and expressions.

The character of God that I’m referring to can be first found in Exodus 34:6-7

“Yahweh! The Lord!
The God of compassion and mercy!
I am slow to anger
and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.
I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations.
I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin.
But I do not excuse the guilty.
    I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren;
the entire family is affected—
even children in the third and fourth generations.”

Most recently for us, we saw God's character in our Homecoming video and in other Homecoming celebrations from this year.  Check out all the fun below!

One of the ways God expresses His character is through our relationships with each other.  With the ongoing adjustments to the COVID pandemic, we experimented with another way to celebrate those relationships that mean so much and have MCF as the common connection.  (Due to the absence of an Alumni Relations Committee) some of the current students came together to host a Homecoming video and invited any alumni to participate.  Although the response was less than what we had hoped, we thoroughly enjoyed how it all came together.  With some more planning and earlier publicity and communication, this could be a great addition to our Homecoming celebrations in the years to come.

More Homecoming Celebrations

The following week at Christian Community Church, we were able to recognize several people this year for Homecoming Celebrations within whom this reflection of God’s character is bright and vibrant.

The 2021 MCFers of the Year:
Phil and Barb (Weber) Kilby (‘77)

Mike with Phil and Barb Kilby, our MCFers of the year
Ohhh the stories that could be told … about a surprise painting of the MCF house kitchen LIME GREEN! (Barb’s artistic expressions have continued to be vibrant and full of life!!!)  And then there are the ones about Phil and Barb living in the Whitnah house (don’t panic, they were married and it wasn’t used for student housing yet, but the start of LifeHouse Pregnancy Center; Phil was the first full time director of LifeHouse).  Let us not forget the great dynamic duo of the Butlers and Kilbys doing great and crazy things for the community of Murray and the Murray Christian Fellowship.
A word of remembrance and appreciation from Phil and Barb:

MCF meant so much to Phil and I while attending Murray State in 1972-1977. It was an anchor and warm home to us.

We loved Dean Ross and so many students active at His House (which was the first name for MCF). Some I recall are Bill and Karen (Kline), Susanna Owens, Dan & Mary Butler, Mark Whited, sibling duo Chuck and Nancy Murray, Bill and Shirley Redmond and many others who had a positive influence on us.

So many fun times I remember: Bill Redmond leading a spirited rendition of “ka ka ka Katie beautiful Katie" weekly at the song service at Fern Terrace; students dressed like the Easter Bunny or Santa handing out gifts to residents; or Phil and I with the Butlers building a garden in the back of the campus house (it had a little trickling stream with rocks and ferns we hauled out of LBL and even proudly purchased a burning bush thinking it would be huge and red like the catalog picture instead of a twig.)

We considered the campus house to be a second home and each Saturday we were encouraged to clean it. I had very little experience cleaning or doing any real work to be honest. I vacuumed the basement even though the belt had broken and was melting leaving black marks across the red carpet. Determined I just kept going! Poor Dean had to look at my handy-work for years!

I also felt so at home and free that I painted the entire kitchen bright lime green without even asking one night as a surprise thinking all would be thrilled with my color choice! Yes many of us were immature green then, but many matured, moved into places of responsibility and let their light shine.

Phil became the first full time director of Life House Crisis Pregnancy Center for 9 years (an ongoing ministry in Murray Ky). We lived for a year above the ministry with our young family on MCF property.

Karen Dockery has written numerous books and study materials for Lifeways Publishing.  Shirley Redmond has also written many published books, one of which was picked by Christianity Today as best children’s book of 2020. Nancy Murray Clements has retired as a Middle School principle and is helping to build The Clements Mineral Museum into a world class showcase.

There are so many stories, so many lives, I can only touch on a few that God touched through our time at MCF.   God knows the lights went out into the world, that raised families, worked in their communities to make a difference and bring Christ’s light into the world.

The 2021 recipient of the
MCF Endowment Scholarship:
Zach McCarver (2023)
Brenda and Bill Call with Zach McCarver and Mike Kerrick
First of all, I am so pleased to announce that the MCF scholarship that comes out of gains from this past year activity of the Endowment has a new name … the Brenda & Bill Call Scholarship of Support

During the July Board meeting, when we approve the use of the interest earned from the Endowment, member Dr Ruth Ragovin motioned that we name the scholarship after the Calls for their life long support of MCF.  It was unanimously passed with great enthusiasm and just a little bit of emotion.
A word of thanks from Zach McCarver:
As I have met more and more Alumni that have built families, made memories, and worshiped together here at Murray Christian Fellowship, I have come to realize how impactful and important MCF is. To receive the Brenda and Bill Call Scholarship of Support is an incredible honor and I hope to one day be able to give back to this community and support future generations of MCFers.
Thank you,
Zach McCarver

We do a lot of our shopping at our local Walmart, but we also purchase many things online through Amazon.

Therefore, we have created an Amazon Wish List with specific needs we have throughout the year.

Typically we use Amazon to purchase Biblical study materials for students and staff, items for on-campus activities, and specialty supplies for the Campus House.  But our needs are always changing.
We plan to keep adding to the list, so keep checking in!

Not sure what to pick? Get us an Amazon gift card!
Sometimes we need something quickly (books for a student study, supplies for an outreach table, etc.) and don't have time to contact specific supporters to ask for help.  The gift cards give us the flexibility to get what we need, when we need it, so we can share Jesus here at MCF!

And don't forget to shop through Amazon Smile, and choose MCF as your Charity of Choice!
