Two More Weeks to Go!

In just two more weeks, we will be heading into our 37th Annual Directors' Forum Conference, and we can't wait! 

There is so much to be excited about... It's our first-ever hybrid event;  it's the first official conference we are running as an incorporated NFP co-operative entity; and it's the first in-person event we've hosted in over two years! 

We have a lot to be thankful for, and we know that our delegates will not be dissapointed with all the great programming and speakers we've got on the agenda this year. 

So if you or your Board has been on the fence about attending, we encourage you to consider joining us - from the safety of your own home, or in-person at the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale.

We have taken every precaution to ensure the safety of all our participants, and will be maintaining all social distancing protocols despite the recent announcement that meeting and event venues are no longer required to practice them. The well-being of our delegates, staff and Board is our primary concern. Keep reading to learn more...

One More Week to Register

Don't miss the opportunity to register for the conference before it's too late! There is still room for in-person delegates to attend while maintaining social distancing protocols, and there is plenty of room for virtual delegates to join as well! The final deadline is midnight, Wednesday, November 17. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

Discounted Accommodations Still Available

There are still rooms available at the discounted rate of $165 + HST (standard room) for our delegates requiring overnight accommodations. We have extended the deadline to access this group rate until November 17; after this rate, delegates will be required to pay the going rate of the hotel. Book online now - you can always cancel! You can also book by calling the reservation desk at: 1-905-821-1981 (make sure to tell them you are with the "Directors' Forum").

Conference Highlights: Sessions & Speakers

The Canadian Care Crisis and Deficit: Role for Credit Unions?  
Join Susan Prentice, Duff Roblin Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Manitoba, to consider important demographic trends in Canada in the care economy, and emergent needs for childcare are impacting women’s equity and capacity. Considering this changing environment, Susan, who will be joined by expert facilitator Alisdair Smith, will lead delegates on an exploration of
possible roles for credit unions to support this societal transition with progressive actions.
Simulating Hindsight, Oversight and Foresight

Anthony Piscitelli and Tanya Gracie will facilitate this half-day simulation-based workshop,  designed to have participants role-play a board meeting for an organization facing a series of challenges. Successfully navigating the simulation will require board members to balance their hindsight, oversight, and foresight roles. Following the role-playing exercise, a

facilitated debriefing will prepare participants to apply what they learned to their own credit unions. Participants of this session will receive a 1/2 CE credit from CUDA®!
Board Chairs' Session

Based on feedback from our last Chair’s session in 2019, faciliatars Tim Foster and Leo Racette, will cover two of the most requested topics: Onboarding New Directors and Managing Difficult Directors. Chairs and Vice-Chairs who attend should be prepared to share experiences - good and bad - and any policies they may have on these two challenging topics.

In an effort to continue year-round engagment with Directors, and thanks to the success of the 2020-21 Virtual Governance Series, we are in the process of producing some new sessions to begin early 2022! The Board's Role in Member Representation
February 2, 2022 from 10:30am - 12:00pm EST


Boards of Directors are expected to focus on strategy while leaving operations to management. Yet, when Directors speak with members of the credit union, the concerns they hear are typically focused on day-to-day issues. This session will share ideas from school board trustees and other credit unions on how to solicit feedback from members, which can help provide strategic insights.

In preparation for this session, please complete the survey below to share insights from your credit union. (Note: You do not have to register or participate in the sesion to take the survey - your input is greatly appreciated). Registration for this session will open in December.

Directors Representation Survey

You are invited to participate in a survey being conducted by Dr. Anthony Piscitelli and the Directors’ Forum Co-operative. In this survey, we are interested in learning how credit unions, co-operative, and mutual directors consult with the members of their organizations. The online survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and as a thank you for participating, you may be entered into a draw for a $100 gift card to your favourite local restaurant, co-operative, or charity.
