We want you back! Full boats are happy boats!

Winter Paddling in Morro Bay

Greeting Friends & Paddlers!

Conditions in Avila Beach have become a little unpredictable and we've decided to move a few boats to Morro Bay for some winter paddling. This is your chance to get back on the water with us as we wind down the 2021 season. That's right! We want to invite past PKO members to join us for some casual practices in the beautiful calm waters of Morro Bay.
** This is an invitation for past and current members of PKO only. A current scora waiver must be signed before paddling. Please email join@palekai for more information or text Scott Bixler.

Hey Novice Paddlers! We want to get you on the water too! If you are interested in joining Pale Kai for our Demo Days in Morro Bay, we've got. you covered. We've scheduled four days in January and February to give you a chance to come check out what outrigger paddling is all about. The spaces fill up pretty quick, so hop on over to our website to sign up.

We also have two upcoming community events that we would love to see you at. The SLO food bank is hosting a Turkey Trot in Avila Beach on Thanksgiving Day (this Thursday). Participants will be trotting right by our boat storage site and club house on Avila Beach Dr toward the Bob Jones Trail! We are putting together a little treat for trotters and would love to see you, whether you are turkey trotting or just want to swing by and hand out the treats with us.

Finally, PKO is participating in the SLO Holiday Parade. Do you want to join us? We're going to be hauling a few canoes and a bunch of paddles to promote our club! Toss on a Hawaiian shirt and join us for a fun evening with the club. Scroll down for more info. This will be our first ever parade on land (besides moving the canoes thru Avila at practice) and we are really excited to bring a little Aloha spirit to downtown San Luis Obispo. See you there!

Hey potential *NEW* paddlers!
We want to get you out on the water with us. Come check out what outrigger canoeing is all about.

AN UPDATE FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT

Aloha PKO Family,

Just a note to keep you updated, basically sharing good news. PKO is on the move!

We've had a great year staying on the water through the pandemic, largely based on John and Tamara's coaching perseverance.  We managed to get a couple races in and had a very successful end of season practice race and celebration including some guests from other clubs in Northern California.  We've stayed financially solvent for this past 1.5 years in spite of our membership being deceased by half, and we have even managed to made a substantial payment on the new boats.  We're excited to be looking for to the future.

Speaking of that, we've moved three boats early this year to Morro Bay.  Indeed, we have the arrangements all organized with the Harbor authorities to have them there for 4 months.  We have plans to stay active through the Holiday Season and in addition to the seasonal activities that Kim has posted you on we are working on some conditioning activities as well.  Please do join us at Coleman Park as we will be paddling, recruiting and getting back on the water together.

We are missing all our PKO veterans and hope to see you all soon.

For the Board, all the Best
