Let's Talk PE: Parent Teacher Meetings and Report Cards This is a prompt sheet to support teachers who are preparing to share knowledge and information about their child's PE experiences with parents in Parent Teacher Meetings or through Report Cards. This resource will shortly be available on the PDST PE and Scoilnet websites (Supporting PE at Home sections).
Supporting Your Child's PE Learning at Home This tri-fold flyer can be given to parents at the beginning of the year, during Parent Teacher Meetings, or the end of year with the child's report card. It presents ideas for parents for how to promote fundamental movement skill development, physical activity and physical literacy at home. This resource will shortly be available on the PDST PE and Scoilnet websites (Supporting PE at Home sections).
(Coming Soon) Physical Literacy: Seminar 4 This seminar focuses on developing pupils’ motivation and confidence to participate in physical activity for life. Participants will explore a variety of strategies that can be easily implemented in PE lessons to motivate and develop pupils’ confidence to improve participation in the PE lesson and also in physical activity within and outside of school. Developing motivation and confidence is a key element of every child’s physical literacy development. This seminar will run in the coming weeks, further updates and announcements will be posted on Twitter @PDSTpe and on the PDST PE website.Bookings can be made onwww.pdst.ie/onlinebooking.
(Coming Soon) Cooperative Learning in PE: Workshops
Cooperative learning is an instructional approach which supports pupils to work and learn together in PE. In this workshop participants will explore fun, non-contact strategies that promote cooperative learning. Cooperative learning can be used across any strand of the PE curriculum and has been shown to enhance pupil motivation, confidence and ability to work together positively in PE. These workshops will run in late November - January In coming weeks places will be available for booking on www.pdst.ie/onlinebooking.

Active Break Every Day Challenge November 8 - December 3 ASF encourages all schools to take on the Active Break Every Day challenge. This 4-week challenge is designed to motivate, and to support, teachers and schools to build movement breaks into their daily routine. It is one of the KEY whole of schoolactivities that schools working towards ASF must undertake and should form part of the annual calendar for all ASF schools. As always, if the national dates for this challenge don't suit your school you are free to run it at a different point in the school year.
Active Breaks must adhere to COVID safety guidelines.
5-10 minutes in duration
Keep it simple.
Active breaks can take place indoors or outdoors, preferably outdoors
Teacher are encouraged to join in also
Ideal during lesson transitions.
Restores concentration and focus.
Can be linked with curricular work .
Mindfulness breaks can bring stillness and calmness into every day.
Top Tip - Laminate the challenge charts and hang them outside of classroom doors to create a buzz around the school.

#FeelGoodFridays: Active Slogan Day (November 26th) We are asking as many schools as possible (primary/post primary/special schools) to share their Active School slogans (English/Irish) with us on Friday, November 26th. Please tag @ActiveFlag@HealthyIreland@Education_Ire including #FeelGoodFridays Active Slogan so that we don't miss out on any! Alternatively, you can email your slogan to resources@activeschoolflag.ie (remembering to include your roll number in the subject line).
This is an ideal first activity for ASF committees/lead classes, in schools working towards ASF this year. It could have an accompanying artwork element as well if schools wish to design their own active school logo.

APPLICATION Process (Primary Schools)
NEW Online ASF Applications System We have upgraded our online application system for schools to make it more user-friendly. Prior to registering/logging in for the first time, please read the Guidelines document that relates to your school type:
IMPORTANT: Closing Date for OLD System (Nov. 19th) As indicated in the above Guidelines documents, we will close the OLD Applications System on November 19th. After this date, all primary schools will be required to use the NEW system to apply for ASF.
