"What’s New This Week"

  • Mudra:  Trishula = Trident --a gesture explained as a symbol of Shiva, the Goddess of transformation. Try it out with imagined Alternate Nostril breath and emphasize the horseshoe shape of the breath as it grazes the space between the eyebrows--Third Eye (Find the handout in each practice this week)
 
  • Breath: Alternate Nostril Breath (Nadi Shodana) --a balancing breath to use for calming the mind. Find this as a stand alone practice in the library
 
  • Bonus: "Complete Core"  20min practice, No equipment needed--but x1 light weight if desired. Activate your core muscles, primarily the transversus abdominus (TA) that acts like a corset to support your back.  All done lying on your back and on your side. 
 
  • Chair Yoga: "Core Balance" Opportunity to activate the deeper core muscles with every exhale, by gently drawing the navel center inward without rounding the back. Take this into balance moves that start in seated and then standing
    • Getting out of the car pose
    • Getting on/off the horse pose
    • Circle in the sand
 
  • Light Weights Practice: "Posture & Balance" No weight bearing into the knees today, except for minor transitions as needed.  We start with some core warmups that also support your posture.  Then we move into some standing balance movements.  And finish on the floor for core and finishing poses.

     
  • Therapeutic Yoga: "Standing Flow" Get the spine mobile and the core activated, because we'll be using these pieces as we go today. Then we move into some standing flow of traditional poses.
