Forward Forward

St. Olave’s is situated on the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Anishinabek Nations, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. This territory is also covered by the Toronto Purchase. Today, Toronto is home to many Indigenous people and we recognize their enduring presence and connection to this land. We are grateful for the opportunity to gather on this land, and we commit to and pray for the work of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

Rector’s Message

Hello <<First name>>,

One of the things I love about saying the Daily Offices of Morning and Evening Prayer is learning about the extraordinary Christians that populate the church calendar. If you have never looked at it closely before, I encourage you to peruse the Calendar of the BCP found on pages ix to xii. There's a multitude of people listed from around the world and from here at home. One of the easiest places to read about these fascinating Christians is Stephen Reynolds’ For All the Saints: Prayer and Readings for Saints' Days (ABC, 1994). What’s even better is that this wonderful book is available to read, free of charge, on the Anglican Church of Canada’s website

As we celebrate the festival of All Saints this week, I encourage you to spend some time learning about the saints and sinners who we commemorate throughout the year

Window Sponsorship Campaign
Last week you should have received a letter in the mail about our newest stewardship campaign, Lead, Kindly Light. We have had a very positive response and only a few window sponsorships are left! For more information please visit our website
here or pick up a letter in the Narthex.
Food Drive
According to Feed Ontario, in 2019 2,660 people  living in Parkdale-High Park used a food bank a total of 28,037 times. 17% of those visits were made by children.
Current figures are not available but the pandemic has not likely decreased the need. We will be placing the food cart in the Narthex and invite you to bring non-perishable food items that will then be delivered to local food banks.
St. Olave’s Book Club meeting

Thank you to all who attended this week’s second book club meeting at which we discussed A Town Called Solace by Mary Lawson. A group of 10 literary enthusiasts gathered on Zoom to explore the deeper themes and metaphors of the book, the impact of parenting and the role of the town in this bestselling novel. Our next title will be announced by the end of November in the weekly announcements and e-blasts. If you would like to be added to our email list, please contact the office at stolaves@stolaves.ca.
