Tēnā koutou, My husband and I had our first experience watching the Aurora Australis last night. It was truly incredible and viewing it from the back field of The Catlins Area School reinforced how lucky I am to be the principal of such an amazing school in a beautiful location. Our years 11 to 13 student reports were emailed to caregivers this week. Please make sure that you contact your child’s subject teacher if you have any questions about the senior reports. Reports for years 1 to 10 students will be emailed to caregivers on the last day of school, Thursday the 9th of December. Covid has disrupted many events this year and unfortunately, our prizegiving will be included amongst them. This year’s prizegiving will occur during school hours with students only and there will be separate prizegivings for years 11 to 13 and for years 1 to 10. The senior prizegiving for years 11-13 will occur on the last day for seniors before exam leave Friday, 19 November at 1:30 pm. This will also be attended by years 7-10 students. The year 1 to 10 prizegiving will occur during school hours on the last day for students which is Thursday the 9th of December. The COVID-19 Required Vaccinations Order covers those who work (paid or unpaid) in the education sector and who will be on site when children or students are present. The Order doesn’t require parents to be vaccinated where they are on site for the purposes of “being a parent”. Those parents, caregivers, or community members who volunteer to work in school whether helping in class or at swimming are considered to be workers under the Public Health Orders. From the 16th of November, only workers who are vaccinated will be allowed on the school site when students are present. I will be sending out a separate email later this afternoon to all caregivers with the latest information regarding the different types of roles that are undertaken in schools and which of these roles are required to be vaccinated under the order. Please enjoy your weekend and get in touch if you need to. Ngā mihi nui, Glenys News
