Happy November! As we enjoy these crisp fall days, there’s no better place to grab a favorite market beverage, pick up breakfast, and enjoy this delightful fall weather as you shop under the canopy of changing leaves at the market. Stop at all the farms for an incredible array of seasonal vegetables and delicious meats. This cooler weather makes the greens all the sweeter. Along with chicken, fish, pork, beef, and lamb, we’ll also have turkey at the market so shop early as you begin to plan your Thanksgiving meal. The freshest food is the tastiest and most nutritional so support local farms and food artisans. As we enter this season of gratitude, we say a special thank you for supporting the market, our vendors, and our mission to support local food, educate on nutrition, and address food insecurity.
We’ve so appreciated our community partnerships, including The Mint Museum, Arts +, and Charlotte Lab School helping with our children’s activities. This Saturday, bring your children and invite other families to join us 10:00am - 11:00am as Discovery Place brings their engaging hands-on activities to the market to present “You Are What You Eat” and explore the connection between local produce and healthy eating. We all work together to develop long-term healthy eaters!
As this weather gets crisp and cool, stop by Pepper Apparel’s tent for new Uptown Farmers Market merchandise - great apparel to keep you warm and support the market!
COVID-19 Protocol: Please continue to socially distance at vendor tents and take advantage of the market’s three hand-washing stations. We’ll have plentiful sanitizers at all the vendor tents. Mask mandates are still in place for all indoor places, so we can all appreciate the opportunity to shop for the freshest produce, meats, and artisan foods at an outdoor farmers market. We will stay vigilant on CDC protocols for outdoor gatherings, and please wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We’ll continue to work together to get past this pandemic and keep one another safe.

From Charlotte Culinary Expert, Heidi Billotto
This week we are celebrating the fall harvest of local root veggies. But it's not just about the delicious roots. Did you know you can eat all the leafy tops as well? Turnip greens, beet greens and carrot tops all add a spicy kick to any salad or saute.
Today, I'm happy to share a way to preserve that crisp carrot-y pop of flavor fall and spring carrot tops provide.
Measurements for this recipe are very flexible, so add flavors you like. Minced garlic is certainly an option, if you are a garlic lover. I like to leave it out so you can really taste the carrot tops and the herbs. The lemon salt really brings the taste to your tongue and the microgreen powder adds a wonderful depth of flavor. This pistou ( not as pesto as there is no cheese) is bright and flavorful and a great way to use the whole veggie from root to stem!
Enjoy! Cheers
Heidi
