1. Blue Flag Status for Summer Season
Just in time for the upcoming summer season, congratulations to all those involved in securing Blue Flag status to a number of locations within the greater Knysna area. From the Knysna Municipality:
“Two of Knysna’s beaches and two marinas have again been named amongst the best in the world as they were awarded Full Blue Flag Status. “Our beaches at Buffalo Bay and Brenton on Sea have once again gained Blue Flag status, as have the Thesen Islands and Thesen Harbour Town marinas,” announced Acting Knysna Municipal Manager Dawid Adonis.
To qualify, sites must meet a variety of environmental, educational, safety and accessibility criteria. “With the summer season on its way and the welcome return of visitors to our area, we are very proud of the Blue Flag status these beaches and marinas have been awarded,” said Adonis. “The greater Knysna area is known for its beauty, including the forests, Cape Fynbos and, of course, beaches. We are proud of this natural heritage and thank Blue Flag Global and the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa for this recognition.”
The awarding of the Blue Flag status complements the recently completed rehabilitation of the beach access area at Buffalo Bay as well as the amazing artworks that have been installed between the Buffalo Bay residents and the Interactive Art Project. It is going to be a great summer!
