Hello Valley Youth Service Providers!

It’s an exciting time as state lockdown and restrictions are easing and all in time for the late spring period and festive season. And as exams week had come to an end for high school and university students, we bet that it is also an especially exciting time for many young people to start looking forward to engage in new opportunities once the stressors of revision and lockdowns are past them.

We hope that everyone is starting to find their ‘post-lockdown feet’ and able to support young people to do the same. And what better way to do that with encouraging them to consider the following opportunities listed below.

YOUNG PEOPLE’S AWARDS
Nominations for Valley Youth’s Young People’s Awards are still open! Tell us about someone you know aged 12-25 who is making a difference in Moonee Valley. Award recipients will receive a $150 voucher! Go to https://bit.ly/youngpeoplesawards to submit your nomination by 22 November.

ART OPPORTUNITIES AT INCINERATOR GALLERY
The Incinerator Gallery is exhibiting the Bright Sparks Poster Exhibition which invites students up to Year 10 who live, work, or study in Moonee Valley to submit poster artwork that expresses their thoughts, concerns, or love for the environment we live in. Entries close 28 November. Find out more here.

WELLBEING SUPPORT
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Team at Valley Youth has a new worker on board- welcome Maree! The team is currently taking referrals for Youth Support with no current waitlist. Young people who live, work, or study in Moonee Valley are eligible for up to 10 sessions of one-on-one support, which is free and confidential. We work with young people to develop personal resilience to address and resolve issues that are impacting their lives within an early intervention model. The team can provide outreach support via phone, Zoom, and potentially soon in our counselling room in our office in Moonee Ponds. For info on how to refer visit our Support Page.

BOARD OF BOYS – MAN CAVE TV
Know any boys aged 13-19 that like creating videos, playing video games, involved in drama or music, or just the class clown?  Why not refer them to join the Board of Boys, a Movember funded project with the Man Cave to create content for Man Cave TV. Man Cave TV is a platform where teenage boys to create content with the help of Man Cave facilitators to make all things about adulthood and masculinity make sense to their peers. PART-TIME JOB – SITE ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT TRAINEE
The Brotherhood of St. Laurence are hiring two trainees, one each at Ascot Vale and Ashburton, to work at Australia’s biggest building construction companies called Built. The paid position is offered to young people, especially to young people living at the Flemington Housing Estate and undertaking construction, building design, or other relevant qualifications, who are willing to learn and work hard over 12 months in the administrative process associated with large scale residential construction on Public Housing Redevelopment projects while obtaining a Cert III in Business. Applicants need to have proof of being an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident, good computer skills in Microsoft Office and able to learn new programs, Able to work in a team and provide good customer service, good reading and writing skills, and no previous Cert III qualification unless part of VCAL. MARIBYNONG AND MOONEE VALLEY LOCAL LEARNING NETWORK (MMVLLEN) -YOUTH MENTORING CAREERS PATHWAYS PROGRAM 
The MMVLLEEN is offering several opportunities for young people aged 16-24 who are unemployed or underemployed and connected to either Maribyrnong or Moonee Valley to help become job ready. Eligible young people can choose all or either of the following program opportunities; The Mentor Program, Work Placement, and Skill Building Workshops. GET ACTIVE VOUCHER PROGRAM
Round 3 of the Get Active Kids Voucher Program is NOW OPEN! The Get Active Kids Voucher Program helps eligible families get their kids involved in organised sport and active recreation activities by reimbursing the cost of membership and registration fees, uniforms, and equipment. Eligible children may be able to receive up to $200 each. Special consideration also applies for children residing in care services as well as temporary or provisional visa holders, undocumented migrants or international students. Applications for vouchers in Round three of the Program open on Monday 4 October 2021 and close on Tuesday 30 November 2021.

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN – RESEARCH PROJECT
The Centre for Mental Health at the University of Melbourne are looking for participants for a research project on developing a mental health first aid course that addresses primary school aged children or children aged 5-12. They are looking for four types of people as ‘groups of experts’ to participate that either fall into the following categories: Parents or carers with experience of caring for a child/children with a mental health problem/s, Mental health professionals who primarily care for children, Young people with lived experience of mental health problems in their elementary years, Primary teachers/school staff (of children aged 5-12 years old). MOONEE VALLEY LIBARIES OFFERING ASSISTANCE ON OBTAINING VAXINATION CERTIFICATES
Moonee Valley Libraries are offering an outdoor service to the community by staff offering assistance on how to either obtaining a digital or hardcopy certificate of vaccination status. Library staff can walk through community members on how to get a digital certificate via the MyGov app and how to install and log into MyGov if members don’t have it installed on their smartphone. Staff can also assist community members in getting a hard copy certificate and print one at no cost if requested.
