4-H Members, Families, and Volunteers:

Autumn is a special season, when the days grow shorter and the leaves provide a beautiful, multi-hued view during our chilly walks.

What's most amazing is that the scenery around us is a result of science at work. In Spring and Summer, leaves create food for trees with a chemical called chlorophyll, which helps absorb sunlight and turn it into energy by transforming carbon dioxide and water to carbohydrates. Chlorophyll is what gives leaves their green color!

Once Autumn arrives, chlorophyll breaks down and yellow, orange, and red pigments in the leaves become visible. Eventually, the leaves will fall and be replaced by new growth next season!

I see Autumn as a time for both endings and beginnings. Just like the trees, this is our opportunity to shed some of the year's worries and make way for new adventures!

We hope that 4-H will inspire you this season and beyond to try something new! If you haven't yet enrolled or registered for the program year, please remember to visit
4HOnline so that you can participate in all the exciting opportunities 4-H has to offer.

Imagine the possibilities! 🍁

Enrollment for the 2021-2022 4-H program year officially began October 1st! To enroll or re-enroll in 4-H, visit 4HOnline and ensure that your information is up-to-date. The online payment system is working, so if you want to pay via card in 4HOnline, you can now do so!

Please note: Active volunteers must re-enroll before the end of November. Failure to do so may result in your dismissal from the 4-H program.

If the $15 enrollment fee is a barrier to participating, we have full & partial scholarships available! If you would like to request a paper copy of a youth or adult volunteer enrollment form, contact Ashley.

Holiday Bake-Off

16Tech Invites You to Family Day at Machyne
Please join us on December 12th from 12:30-3PM for Family Day at Machyne. RSVP here - we only have space available for 25 families, so reserve your spot today!

Machyne is a Makerspace in the 16 Tech Innovation District. Purdue Extension Marion County and 4-H Educator Kody Orr manage a studio within Machyne to help connect local kids with makerspace resources by helping to bridge the cost and knowledge gap that may accompany membership to makerspaces.

We welcome anyone who’s interested to join us on December 12th for food and interactive STEAM (STEM + Arts) activities.  We would love for you to join us to come have a short tour of the makerspace, see the types of projects that kids work on in our studio space, and hopefully make something for yourself!

Contact Kody for more information.

Save the Date: Scholarship Workshop
It's the time of year when your high school student can earn $$ by applying for a 4-H scholarship! Please save the date for December 9th from 6 - 8 p.m. for a scholarship workshop at the Marion County Extension Office.

This year, we are offering virtual resources and an in-person workshop for high school youth and their families to learn more about scholarship options and discover how to elevate their applications to stand out from the rest.

Contact Ashley for more information.
