When asked by researchers, most children in long-term foster care or adoptive families want more rather than less contact with some birth family members and former foster carers. How can we prevent these children from having ‘searching’ anxieties and help them maintain a sense of ‘connectedness’?

Interview processes in the County Social Welfare Boards are attempts to resolve child protection cases prior to formal negotiation meetings. Why do we need these processes and what do they add to child protection cases? Professor of Law at the University of Bergen, Camilla Bernt, gave a presentation about affected parties' right to interview processes in the Norwegian County Social Welfare Boards (video is in Norwegian).

New research Centre on the study of transnational families

 
A new research Centre has been established at the Babeș-Bolyai University in Romania, focusing on the needs and rights of transnational families. DIPA is a supporter of the initiative.

New book published on parental guidance, state responsibility and evolving capacities

 
Our collaborators at the CRC Implementation Project recently published an edited volume on Article 5 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Director of DIPA, Professor Marit Skivenes, has written a chapter in the book together with Amy McEwan-Strand. See link to the chapter under "Recent publications from the Centre" below.
