“Emotional intelligence is the difference that makes the difference. A lack of emotional intelligence is what limits some people in their ability to manage themselves, manage others, or manage situations.” (J.D. Meier, Director of Innovation at Microsoft)
A recent study of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development in the UK (CIPD) says that: ‘Nearly as much as 80% of the reasons why careers are derailed can be traced to weaknesses in Emotional Intelligence.’
Here's why this is important.
The mistake I see people making, especially the ones at the beginning of their leadership journey, is this: they focus on building successful relationships with others first.
And they struggle.
And get frustrated when this doesn’t work the way they thought it would.
And then they give up and might even change the place where they operate in (changing jobs because of not-so-great work relationships is something I’ve often seen happening, for people only to bump into the same issue later on in their new job).
Because they started in the wrong place!
Check this video to see why Emotional Intelligence is where you need to start your leadership journey and what you need to focus on to do that!
This week on the Game Changing Work LIVE Show, Veronica Stewart and I, together with our special guest, Alex Leon Flores, explored the hot topic of the year: how to shift from the Great Attrition to the Great Attraction for your organization.
More than 19 million US workers (and counting) have quit their jobs since April 2021, record pace disrupting businesses everywhere (McKinsey).
Companies are still struggling to address the problem for one simple reason - THEY DON'T REALLY UNDERSTAND WHY THEIR EMPLOYEES ARE LEAVING IN THE FIRST PLACE.
We covered:
✅ What are the current trends going into 2022 for organizations and talent?
✅ Design thinking ideas to keep and attract talent.
✅ How outcome-centric solutions can help shift this paradigm.
