A Message From the Principals Desk
Dear Talahi Families,

It has been another wonderful couple of weeks of learning and growing at Talahi. As students begin to master school routines we are seeing great gains in their academic and social emotional development. One way families can support this growth at home is to read the PAKRAT books students are bringing home, and to sign the reading calendar. Reading together not only promotes literacy, but also provides an opportunity for adults to talk to their students about their emotions, thoughts, and perspectives.

We are looking forward to our next Enrichment Day, Friday November 12th. In addition to Enrichment on Friday we will hold our second virtual assembly. We will be kicking off our November theme Social Awareness, and honoring our students of the month.

Picture day has been rescheduled and will be on Tuesday Nov. 16th. Please watch for the picture order form to come home next week.

Teachers have been working hard to schedule our first round of conferences are looking forward to visiting with families virtually on November 18th and 22nd. We appreciate this opportunity to partner with you in your students education.

Sincerely,

Ms. Hansen & Ms. Murphy

When you arrive at Madison ,please remain in your car or outside the door # 8 and call the office. If you enter the school you are expected to wear a mask even if you are just in the inside entrance.

BUS SAFETY EXPECTATIONS
We are asking all families to talk to their students about safe bus riding expectations. Unsafe riding behaviors will result disciplinary action which may include suspension from the bus.

Safe riding expectations are:
1)Sitting in seat the entire ride.
2)Isle is clear.
3) Students should sit in their assigned seats.
4)Voices should be low. Only loud enough that the person next to you can hear you.
5)Masks stay on.
6)No food/candy on bus.

If your child regularly takes a bus home and you plan to pick them up instead: You must contact the front office by 1:15 pm. Also know that children are only able to ride their assigned bus home. These steps help to ensure our students get home safely each night.

PBIS/SEL CORNER

Commit acts of service or kindness for others

Practicing kindness for others helps us build an appreciation for our own lives and situations, in addition to improve our physical and mental health. Phone or write people you know who live alone or are on the frontlines to help them feel less isolated. Write a letter outlining the highlights of your day, or draw a picture of a joyful moment you’ve experienced or something you wish for someone else. Demonstrating kindness gives a more powerful message than just talking about it, and helps build gratitude during difficult times.

Illness Guidelines and Attendance

Very often parents have questions regarding when a child should stay home from school due to illness. In general, the following guidelines are used. Your child should stay home if:

  • Elevated temperature – must be temperature free for 24 hours without a fever reducing medication such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen. A temperature/fever is considered 100.4º F or higher.
  • Illness Related Vomiting and/or Diarrhea – none within the last 24 hours
  • Strep throat – Minimum of 12 hours on antibiotic before returning to school
  • Nose discharge - thick, colored drainage (may need to be evaluated by a health care provider)
  • Chickenpox - stay home until all blisters have dried to scabs (about 6 – 10 days)
  • Rash that has not been diagnosed as non-contagious - skin rashes may or may not be contagious, however, the diagnosis cannot be made at school. If a skin rash occurs, the child should remain at home and a health care provider contacted for diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
  • Reddened or Pink eye - refers to an inflamed eye.  It often includes sticky discharge from the eye and pinkish tint to the sclera (whites of the eye). Contact your child’s health care provider for advice/treatment. Children may be at school with symptoms and eye drops are not required.
  • Cough - repetitive coughing that interferes with child’s activity or play may need to be evaluated by a health care provider.
**COVID-19 related illness guidelines are followed per Minnesota Department of Health recommendations. If your child has COVID-19 related symptoms, please contact your school nurse.

In the case where one of the conditions occurs at school (i.e. elevated temperature, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash), the parent will be contacted to take the child home. If the parent cannot be reached, one of your emergency contacts will be asked to pick up your child. School personnel are not able to transport students home.

If parent/guardian or emergency contact information changes during the school year, please notify the school office immediately. If your child is seen by a healthcare provider, please obtain a note excusing their absence related to their health condition.

Please keep this as a reference to use throughout the school year. We all need to work together to control communicable diseases and to maintain a healthier environment for the children.
iPADS and REMOTE LEARNING
Student iPads:

First and Second grade students have begun to bring their iPads home each evening. Kindergarten students are in the process of sending iPads home in the evening as well. Please keep your student's iPad charger at home and ensure iPads are charged in the evening for the next school day.

Remote Learning:

Should your student have a need to engage in remote learning due to a quarantine situation, you will be contacted by our Remote Learning Teacher, Amanda Fox. Ms. Fox will facilitate lessons and learning for students until they are able to return to the school building.
