Dear Friend and Supporter,

We know things are amiss in our local politics, government and economic landscape. Fairness is in short supply. Income inequality widens. Racial equity is far from a reality. Investigative reporting supported by SpotlightDC can break through barriers to redress unfairness and move the dial toward positive change. We need your support to continue our important work!
CAN YOU DONATE $50 TO SUPPORT LOCAL JOURNALISM?
You can assist our mission of awarding funds directly to independent investigative journalists working on worthy projects to shine a light on injustice and malfeasance and amplify the voices of those suffering from systemic failures.

In our first year SpotlightDC delivered by funding these top four stories:
  • DC Taxpayers Paid More Than $50 million in Subsidies to Major Private Trash Haulers
  • Landlords Are Evicting Tenants Without Warning Required By Law
  • Heat Islands in DC’s Treeless Streets Lead to Sickness and Death
  • Defendants Were Jailed During the Pandemic Without Formal Charges
We are coming to you for our first end-of-year fundraising drive to raise $50,000, between now and December 31st. Those contributions will support more than a dozen investigative projects, including consequential projects in the works -- probing affordable housing and recycling, and tracking down a serial rapist. The Institute for Nonprofit News has recognized SpotlightDC with its first “Best Investigative Award;” we need you to recognize and support us with your contribution.

Newsmatch, funded by national foundations, will double your donations.

DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT BY DONATING TODAY

P.S. We are building a community to revive investigative reporting in the DC region. Please help us spread the word! Thanks in advance for forwarding this email to Washingtonians who share our commitment to supporting deep and consequential reporting in our region.

Local watchdog journalism is on life support — let’s revive it together.
