Feeling Stressed? These Articles May Help!

Inside the pandemic and outside of it, it isn't easy to adjust to new careers. One academic writes about her experience as a new junior faculty member and the positive effect of peer mentoring. Read more here. If you want to try some peer mentoring as a postdoc, try joining the UWPA Slack channel. Link to join.

Support can come from unexpected places, and several new faculty cope with the difficulties of academia in part with the help of a personal coach. Read more here.
When you are stressed it's not always easy to speak up about it. A research team at the University of New Mexico is actively trying to help, by researching postdoc training and mentoring needs. Their work will help institutions develop programs that better meet those needs. To do this they need your help. If it is possible please fill out this 15-minute long survey.

From the Postdoc Union:

Postdocs should have the training and opportunity to write and manage grants. Formal recognition for these efforts comes in the form of having a “Principal Investigator” status on projects. Normally departmental policy determines who is eligable for this status and the rules are unclear, poorly documented, or sometimes non-existent. “

The UAW Postdoc PI Taskforce needs your input. Please take a few minutes today to complete this short survey about applying for PI status as a Postdoc.
Fill out this quick questionnaire to sign up! Or email us with questions.
