🍁 VHLC I have to “steal” toilet paper from the hospital! 😃
A “veteran” peer in our VHL Canada Peer Community mentioned how government disabilities have put them in poverty. Some friends (in addition to food banks) helped her to survive during the last 2 “Covid years”. They became active in bringing food to the doorsteps of those who were experiencing “food insecurity.” However, they’ve recently stopped because they’ve returned to work.
“I wouldn’t have had enough to eat, for phone bills, and for a new winter coat during this time without their support. It was almost like a dream come true!”
Words of optimism may work only in the short run, e.g. Don’t worry about it, You’ll be fine, We’ll battle this together, They’ll find a cure, etc. This VHLer peer found practical, concrete support, e.g. food, to be very helpful (and it specifically told friends how to be truly helpful).
Please share your examples and feedback. Thanks, Henry
