Sunday Meditation & Dharma Talk

In-Person and Online
with Dharma Teacher Rachel Parrish

Bodhi Path Chicago
Sundays, 10:20-12:30

Schedule

  • 10:20am: Doors open to in-person participants
  • 10:30am-11am: In-person meditation at the center; Online meditation via this Zoom link.
  • 11am-12:00pm Online teaching and discussion (same Zoom link)
  • 12:00pm-12:30pm Social Time at the center
All times in Central Daylight Time

Note: No in-person sessions on November 28 & December 26; online schedule for those dates TBD.

We continue each Sunday with a program that combines online teachings for our remote community with in-person meditation at our center on Ravenswood Ave in Chicago!

Our sessions will follow a hybrid format:

At the center: Our doors open at 10:20, and we begin in-person meditation at 10:30 sharp. We then connect online with Dharma Teacher Rachel Parrish (bio) and our remote community for Q&A and a teaching. Sessions will end with in-person social time at noon.

Online: we will follow the same format as we have for the past 20 months with online practice, followed by Q&A and a teaching (via this Zoom link).

We hope this format will maximize the benefits of in-person practice, access to our teacher, and the geographically diverse community we have built during the pandemic.

Suggested donations:

  • Standard: $15 per session
  • Sponsor: $25 per session
  • A voluntary teacher offering may be given separately
  • No one turned away for lack of funds.
You may make donations here:  www.bodhipath.org/donate-chicago/. Please specify "program offering" and/or "teacher offering" in the notes.

Tuesday Meditation & Book Discussion

In-person sessions every Tuesday
7:30-9pm
(updated schedule below)

No session Tuesday November 9.

This is a casual gathering of students from all levels of interest and study. Sessions begin with a 30 min period of silent meditation (with a stretch break after 15 minutes), followed by a book discussion during which we read passages aloud and then reflect, comment and clarify what we have read. Interaction is encouraged!

Current book: It's Up to You: The Practice of Self-Reflection on the Buddhist Path, by Dzigar Kongtrul.

Copies of the current book are available to share at the center to share. Previous reading isn't required, so newcomers are welcome at any time.

Senior students lead our discussions, which provide plenty of opportunity for Q&A.
  • Open to all levels.
  • Prior reading not required.
  • Suggested donation: $10 per session (though lack of funds is no reason to stay away)

Updated Schedule

7:30pm Doors Open
7:45pm sharp — Guided Sitting Meditation
8:15pm-9:00pm — Reading/Study/Discussion

Kagyu Monlam 2021

December 8-14
Streamed Online

The annual Kagyu Monlam will occur online again this year, giving practitioners from around the world an opportunity to participate virtually.

The Monlam is an annual gathering to make wishes for the well-being and spiritual development of all sentient beings, so that they may reach enlightenment. The Monlam is one of the most significant events in the Buddhist calendar.

The Tibetan word monlam can be translated “Path of Aspiration”. Many aspiration prayers are recited during the Kagyu Monlam, most notably the Samantabhadra Wishing Prayer, also known as "The King of Aspiration Prayers."  As with last year, there will be an audio live-stream conducted by Karmapa's monks in Rumtek, East Sikkim. Stream details will be announced shortly.
