SGS Award Information Sessions for Students: Ontario Graduate Scholarship (for Master’s/PhD)
Nov. 25, 2:00 - 3:00 pm

This information session presented by SGS staff will provide general program information including eligibility requirements and the application process. Sessions will also be recorded and made available at a later date.

Due to the amount of content that needs to be covered, each session will begin on the hour to make full use of the allotted times. In order to maintain the flow of the presentations for the recordings, SGS staff will answer questions from students at the end of each session.

2. Job Opportunities: 

Post-doc Fellowship in Dementia and Depression

The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto via a collaboration between the Tanz Centre for Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases and the Toronto Dementia Research Alliance (TDRA) is offering a Post-Doc Fellowship with a focus on the interaction between dementia and depression.

Trainees will develop their research focus under a collaborative mentorship of experts in the field from the Tanz Centre for Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases and TDRA sites (i.e., Baycrest, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, and University Health Network) as they work toward becoming independent investigators. Fellows will be recruited to focus on preclinical research or on clinical and translational research.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • Hold a PhD, be in the final year of obtaining the PhD, OR be in the first or second year of a post-doctoral fellowship

Any interested applicants should send an updated CV and a one-page statement indicating their interest in dementia and depression research. Also, please supply the names and contact information for three referees.

UHN's Ajmera Transplant Centre is offering a Machine Learning fellowship (Open until filled)

A Machine Learning fellowship is available at the University Health Network (UHN). The position will be co-supervised by Dr. Mamatha Bhat and Dr. Rahul G. Krishnan.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Ontario Genomics-CANSSI Ontario Postdoctoral Fellowship 

The Ontario Genomics-CANSSI Ontario Postdoctoral Fellowship in Genome Data Science provides two-year salary support up to $50,000 per year for full-time researchers in statistical genetics or genetic epidemiology. Applications are due by Nov. 30.

Virtual Anti-O Convos: Hot Topics

Join the UTM EDI Office, UTM Indigenous Centre and U of T Hart House for the 2021-22 Anti-O Convos: Hot Topics series. Lorena Garvey will lead a conversation about What Are My Responsibilities: Unpacking Relationships to Land, Treaty and Indigenous Communities. The session will seek to share stories about land acknowledgments, treaties, and how we can improve relationships with Indigenous communities. All University of Toronto community members are invited to attend. 5. Call for:

Registration for the University of Toronto's 2022 IMI Big Data & Artificial Intelligence Case Competition (and its related workshops) is now open, featuring at least $15,000 in prizes! There are two streams this year: competitors, and students who would just like to attend the 6-8 workshops. Please note that this competition is only open to University of Toronto graduate and undergraduate students. Knowledge of programming, Big Data & AI is required on each team. Register here

Reminder - IMS Jay Keystone Memorial Award 

In recognition of Dr. Keystone’s contribution to the education of graduate and medical students at the University of Toronto, IMS created the Jay Keystone Memorial Award for Innovation in Scientific Communication. This annual award provides a grant of up to $2,000 to an IMS student(s), supported by a faculty member, to create a new initiative that demonstrates innovation and excellence in the communication of medical science to diverse audiences.

The application package must be emailed to the IMS Student, Staff, Alumni and Faculty Engagement (SAFE) Committee by December 6, 2021. It includes:

The application should be well-grounded in the values, interests and skills of the applicant(s). The shortlisted applicants will also be required to give a 3-minute pitch of their proposal to the adjudicators. The recipient will be determined based on the quality of the application and pitch. A report on the success and impact of the initiative is expected one year after the award is provided.

Research co-led by Prof. Gelareh Zadeh found that vorinostat, currently used to treat a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, could slow the growth of MG4 meningiomas and improve survival in mice.
