BYO

(Club gear auction postponed until February)
Bring along a few of your best photos from your latest trip on a pen drive to share with the club
18 November
Stewart Island
What do they say about Stewart Island again? “Mud is widespread and often deep and thick on tracks, regardless of the season”.

Come along to the club and hear some OTMC members tell a tale of mud, tree roots, spotty kiwi, deer and magnificent birdlife (0h and only a half day of rain and some wonderful company shared).

Day Trips

Day Trips during alert level 2

Day trips have always been available to both club and non club members so the preferred option is for people wanting to attend a day walk to meet at the location during level 2.

If a Day trip is scheduled to leave from the club rooms, then the following guidance will come into affect:

Preference is club members only
If feeling unwell - stay at home
Wear a mask if carpooling with people you do not know
Maximum of 4 people to a car and the trip leader will need to record who is travelling in each car
Ensure you scan the NZ Cover Tracer at the club rooms (these will be on the outside of both doors)
Ensure you complete the SAR list as per usual.

The trip leader has the ultimate discretion so they may also ask some screening questions related to Covid on the day. Please continue to respect the job they do

21 November
All Day on the Peninsula
Leader: Will Sweetman (021 2798973)
This is about a seven hour walk with a fair bit of up and down. From Bacon Track we'll circle through the future forest round Smiths Creek and ascend Hereweka (315m). From there we drop to Hoopers Inlet where begins a more gradual climb to Pikiwhara. After lunch there, you can shed your boots for the next hour as we descend to Sandfly bay and walk across the beach. There is an option to leave cars here for anyone who wants a shorter option. Otherwise we take the road to Pukehiki and from there to Larnach Castle and back down to Broad Bay. (Another option would be to walk on to Boulder Beach and finish in Macandrew Bay via the Paradise and Greenacres tracks as has been when the club has done this walk before.)

Weekend Trips

Weekend Trips during alert level 2
This guidance is for trips leaving from the clubrooms. If members are planning to meet at the starting location, then the trip leader will make decisions as required.
  • Club members only
  • If feeling unwell - stay at home
  • Maximum of 4 people to a car and the trip leader will need to record who is travelling in each car
  • Ensure you scan the NZ Cover Tracer at the club rooms (these will be on the outside of both doors)
  • Ensure you complete the SAR list as per usual.

The trip leader has the ultimate discretion so they may also ask some screening questions related to Covid. Please continue to respect the job they do.
Please touch base with the trip leader directly for Weekend trips prior to 1st November. Trip lists for future trips will go up in the club rooms as normal from the 21 October.
November 20th-21st
Livingstone Range (M)

Leader: Joe Bretherton (027 362 1221)
Trip List Closes: November 11th  (unless max. number reached prior)

We’ll depart the clubrooms after work on the Friday, stop for dinner on the way, and will camp at one of the DOC campgrounds in the Eglington Valley.
Camping fees apply.

Saturday: Leaving the vehicles at The Divide we’ll head to Lake Howden and follow the Greenstone Track to Lake McKellar. From here we leave the track for a steep climb up the ridge alongside Duck Creek until we reach the saddle. From here another steep, but shorter climb will bring us onto the tops of the Livingstone Range. Soon after, we’ll look for a campsite beside on of the many tarns dotted along this part of the range.
Sunday: A relatively easy day following the ridgeline of the range all the way to Key Summit, then down to The Divide.
Good weather is required for this trip to go ahead – both for the spectacular views on offer and that we’re camping in the alpine zone.

Due to Covid Level 2 guidelines this trip is limited to Club Members only.
Maximum Number: 12 persons
Estimated Trip Fee: $55.00
