Invitation

EIRES - Eindhoven Institute for Renewable Energy Systems kindly invites you to join the nineteenth EIRES Lunch lecture on Friday 12 November 2021 | 12h00 - 13h00 (CET).

This lunch lecture is organized by Silvia Gaastra-Nedea
and Henk Huinink, principal scientists EIRES | Focus Area - Systems for Sustainable Heat.
Energy storage is a key element in energy systems based on renewable energy sources due to an increased mismatch between energy production and consumption. For the built environment the storage of heat, thermal energy, plays an important role. During this lunch lecture, Dr. Mina Shahi of the Department of Thermal and Fluid Engineering of the Twente University will first give an overview of the activities at university of Twente in the field of heat storage materials and systems, and then focus on the progress in developing a digital twin of the heat battery. She will show how an advanced numerical platform can give detailed information at different scales of the heat battery (particle-pellet-bed), and how it can be used to improve the design and efficiency of a heat battery.

About Mina Shahi
Dr. Mina Shahi is leading the research theme in heat conversion and storage within the Thermal and fluid engineering department at UT; Her research is focused on model-based analysis, design, and improvement of heat conversion and storage concepts and devices through the fundamental understanding of transport phenomena. Her team seek to solve societal challenges related to energy transition and focus areas include magnetocaloric heat pumps/ refrigerators and heat storage based on PCMs/TCMs. Her approach is grounded on rigorous multiscale modeling and experimentation. Her target applications are domestic heating and cooling and industrial waste heat recovery.
Target audience
EIRES Lunch lectures are open for anyone interested in the latest developments in energy storage and conversion. Different keynote speakers from academia and industry will present their views, solutions and outlooks on the topic. The lectures leave plenty of room for discussion. We value your input. Looking forward meeting you!
