November 2021 Newsletter

Welcome to the Breaston Pre-School November Parentmail!
This month we have a lot of thank you's to say for all the fantastic fundraising you've been doing, the details of our fantastic Christmas raffle, and lots of important dates for you including Nursery Rhyme Week, and a Pre-School visit by some real-life hedgehogs!

Please can all parents/carers double-check that their child's coat, hat, gloves, bag, lunch box AND water bottle are CLEARLY labelled with their name. We are sorry to keep asking but items are still coming into Pre-School unlabelled and it is taking staff considerable time to find the owners of unlabelled items every day.

We also ask that packets of sweets are not included in lunch boxes, as this is contrary to the healthy eating message that we promote at Pre-School. Thank you for your cooperation.

British Hedgehog Preservation Society Visit Wednesday 24th November 10 AM
On Wednesday 24th November, Lina from the British Hedgehog Preservation Society will be visiting Pre-School with Shrimp and Allen, two pygmy hedgehogs! We will have a selection of hedgehog themed activities for the children, and Lina will give a small talk to teach the children all about hedgehogs! Children will also get the opportunity to hold and stroke the hedgehogs if they wish to.

If your child is not usually in session on Wednesday morning and they would like to come in for the visit, please arrive promptly at 9.55am. A parent will be required to stay with their child at Pre-School for the duration of the visit, which will last roughly an hour. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate any extra children without an adult, due to staffing ratios.

While not required, Lina will be gratefully accepting any donations of puppy pads, chicken (not fish) flavour cat biscuits, or any small cat toys (especially foil ball type).

All proceeds will go towards provisioning our forthcoming Forest School and staff Forest School training costs.
Prizes will be available to collect from Pre-School after the winners have been notified on Monday 6th December.

Christmas Hamper
We would like to offer a luxury Christmas Hamper as a prize in the Christmas raffle, and we will be accepting donations to go in the hamper from the 22nd of November. Ideally, we would love donations of luxury biscuits, crisps, bottles of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, chocolates, and similar. Please no items with a short date or fresh items that need to be refrigerated. Thank you!

Thank You - Bear Hunt

Thank you to everyone who donated to the sponsored Bear Hunt fundraiser. We raised an incredible £467 towards our new forest school. We really appreciate every penny!

Thank You - Halloween Sale

Our Halloween sale raised £43.50 that will be spent on new resources for the children. We have used some of this money to purchase some wooden dentist's tools for oral health roleplay, to support the EYFS focus on Oral Health Education.

We're excited to announce that we've been selected as a local cause by Co-op!
From 24 October 2021 to 22 October 2022 Co-op members can choose to raise funds for Breaston Pre-School.

Pre-School Photographer - Monday 29th November
Jane Stapleton Photography will be in Pre-School taking individual photographs of the children. If you wish to have a photograph taken with a younger sibling, or if your child is not in session on Monday morning, then please bring them in to Pre-School from 8.30 - 11 am for their photo to be taken. The photographs will be available to order for delivery before Christmas, and make wonderful mementoes and Christmas presents for family members!

Plastic Bottles for Christmas Decorations
We've been asked by the Breaston Community Forum to make Christmas decorations for the community Christmas trees in the memorial garden by Duffield Close.
We need donations of plastic bottles (any size) to turn into weatherproof decorations. Please leave any clean and empty plastic bottles in the donations box at the front door/in the cloakroom. Thank you.

World Nursery Rhyme Week 15th - 19th November
Next week is World Nursery Rhyme Week and we have lots of fun activities planned for the children. We wanted to share the running order with you so that you can extend the fun and learning at home each day that your child is in Pre-School.
Nursery rhymes play an extremely important role in early childhood development and education. As well as being fun they boost vocabulary and language development, develop early literacy skills, provide a fun way to support early numeracy skills, and develop social, physical and emotional skills!
