Assalamu alaykum,

We have 7 updates to share with you in today's newsletter:

(1) Spiritual or Mental Health: Toward Better Understanding: are you feeling low and unmotivated? Do you want to know if there is a psychological and / or spiritual reason for your physiological symptoms? Join us to learn root causes to the problems with Sh. Ismail Albatnuni and Dr. Khalid Bazaid.

(2) Prayer Time Changes and Parking Announcement: there will be changes to the schedule of the daily prayers and the two Jumuah prayers due to daylight savings.

(3) Social Gathering for Seniors: AMA welcomes our beloved seniors to a morning of building community ties and connecting with the masjid.

(7) Blood Donation Drive: help those in need and donate blood with Canadian Blood Services.

#1. Spiritual or Mental Health: Toward Better Understanding

Muslims around the world are constantly striving to be the first to find solutions to benefit themselves and the society. But the first step in finding a solution is identifying the underlying problem.

Awareness for Mental Health has increased significantly in the society. As Muslims, we should adopt a holistic lens when trying to address these matters using both Islamic and medical approaches.

Join us, Shaykh Ismail Albatnuni, Imam at Masjid Ar-Rahmah, and Dr. Khalid Bazaid, child and adolescent Psychiatrist, at this hybrid program to develop a comprehensive understanding of Mental Health.

This event is offered in-person and online (hybrid) which will be followed by a Q&A session.

#2. Prayer Time Changes and Parking Annoucements

There will be changes to the schedule of the daily prayers and  two Jumuah prayers due to daylight savings. Please pay close attention to the new start times for each:

First Jumuah:

The doors will open at 11:30 AM and the khutbah will begin at 12:00 PM.

Second Jumuah:

The doors will open at 12:45 PM and the khutbah will begin at 1:15 PM.

Please Note:


As per regular operation, for your safety and the safety of others, each person is asked to comply with the following 3 requirements: 

(1) Carry a face mask that covers the nose, mouth and chin
(2) Carry a prayer mat before you enter
(3) Be registered 

Social distancing remains in-effect as per the guidelines recommended by the Province of Ontario. We would also like to remind you that children under the age of 7 are not permitted in the masjid and we encourage you to perform ablution at home.

It's come to our attention that congregants are using the parking at the nearby plazas on Friday. Please note that the plaza parking is only for customers of the businesses listed there and violators can be towed.

When attending the masjid, please use the designated masjid parking only and avoid unnecessary fines. It is our duty as Muslims to follow these laws and respect our neighbours' rights.

Furthermore, you can refer to the image below to locate areas that offer free parking around the masjid.

#3. Social Gathering for Seniors

AMA is pleased to invite our seniors for a social gathering at our centre. This is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends and meet community members. A light brunch and refreshments will be served.

Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Gender: Both males and females are most welcome

Location: AMA Community Centre (1216 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa, ON K1V 2P1)

Cost: Free but registeration is required

Registeration Deadline: Please register by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, November 16, to help our team organize ample refreshments for the event

Note: We will be strictly applying all COVID-19 health guidelines for everyone’s safety. Everyone is required to wear their masks and observe social distancing.

#4. Online Field Trip

Travel with us to learn about interesting schools around the world!

The participants will also be invited to participate in a fun Kahoot Trivia game based on what they have learned during our field trip. Top scores will be e-transferred prizes.

#5. Math Workshop - Advanced Functions

AMA is pleased to offer free Math Workshops for High School Students (grade 11 and 12) on Advanced Functions! The program is designed to help students succeed in school.

The workshop for grade 11 students will be held every Monday, and the workshop for grade 12 students will be held every Thursday.

#6. AMA Public Health Neighbourhood COVID-19 Vaccination Hub

AMA will be facilitating a COVID-19 vaccination clinic every Tuesday - Thursday for Ottawa residents.

This program is to help reduce barriers for residents who have not yet received the vaccine. The hubs will work with community leaders to promote a comfortable, convenient, and easily accessible option for vaccination, as another step towards the goal of ensuring that anyone 12+ in Ottawa who wants a COVID-19 vaccine can get vaccinated.

You're eligible to receive the vaccine if you satisfy the following criteria:

  • First doses are available for Ottawa residents aged 12 years of age or older at the time of vaccination
  • Second doses are available for Ottawa residents aged 12 years of age or older who received their first dose of an mRNA vaccine at least 28 days before their appointment. Residents who received their first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine can receive an mRNA vaccine after 56 days

Here are the details for the pop-up vaccination clinic:

Date & Time: Every Tuesday - Thursday from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Appointment Type: No appointment is required to receive a vaccine or to speak with a Public Health nurse about COVID-19 vaccines 

If there is a waiting period, residents may receive an appointment card with a time to return to the clinic for their vaccine.

Vaccination offered: Pfizer-BioNtech and/or Moderna 

Location: AMA Community Centre (1216 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa, ON K1V 2P1)

Items Required: One piece of government identification. This includes:

  • Health Card
  • Driver's License
  • or Passport

#7. Blood Donation Drive

This is a great opportunity to donate your blood and help those in need.

This clinic is being organized and operated by the Canadian Blood Services and they will be at our masjid to receive blood donations.

We encourage you to come and donate your blood. Your support will help those in need, and you may even save a life with your generous donation.

Allah says in the Qur’an: “And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved all of mankind” (Chapter 5, Verse 32).

  • 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
  • 5:00 - 8:00 PM

Location: AMA Community Centre (1216 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa, ON, K1V 2P1)

Please note: All COVID-19 guidelines (masks and social distancing) will be enforced at the clinic.

Everyone (Muslim and non-Muslims) are welcome to participate at the blood donation drive. If you have any questions you may contact Canadian Blood Services at 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283).
