Career Development / Hiring Events & Opportunities:

  • On Thursday, November 11, between 11am-1pm, attend PVCC's Healthcare Careers Expo to learn directly from 15+ employers (including multiple reps from UVA and Sentara/MJH) about the the many career options available in this industry and how they do their hiring when you're ready to look for a job (but they are all hiring so if you're looking right now, there is no easier way to connect with local employers)!  This event is open to ALL in the community so please share with friends and family. Parking is available in Lots 3 or 4 if the visitor parking in Lots 1 and 2 is full. PVCC is on CAT Bus Route 1. 
  • Torchys Tacos is recruiting in PVCC's Bolick Student Center on Tuesday, November 9, between 10:30am-12:30pm.  Stop by and learn about their career opportunities and try out their great chips and cheese they're bringing with them! They're hiring Bartenders (no experience necessary, tip-based compensation), FOH team members (starting at $14/hour), BOH team members (starting at $16/hour). Both FT and PT positions available.  
  • Attention those who want to teach at PVCC!  We're hosting an Adjunct Open House Hiring Event on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 4-7pm in the Stultz Center (the first building on the right of 501 College Dr.).  We're seeking professionals in multiple fields: Business, Computer Science, Culinary Arts, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Electronics/Manufacturing, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Finance, Geology, General Biology, Health Information Management, Health Sciences, Information Technology,  Mathematics, Nursing - Clinical All Areas, Physical Education, Psychiatric Clinical Nursing, Psychology and Radiography.
  • Did you know that UVA is offering Radiologists a $7500 sign-on bonus right now?  PVCC's Radiography program would prepare you for that position which has a pay range of $21.10 - $32.71/hour at UVA.  Attend PVCC's Virtual Program Spotlight on Tuesday, November 9 at 6:30pm to learn more about this program. Registration required.
  • On Tuesday, November 9, "Virginia is Open for Business!" Statewide Virtual Job Fair from 1-5pm that is being sponsored by the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Registration required.  We will post the list of regional employers on PVCC's recruiting calendar as soon as we can get it. There is also a Veteran-based DC/MD/VA Virtual Hiring event being held on Tuesday, Nov. 9 between 10am-3pm.  Registration required.
  • Attention technology / digital marketing students who want to improve their resume - Forge is hosting a Perfecting Your Resume 101 on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 7pm. 
  • Virginia Career Works (VCW) hosts a weekly virtual job search prep workshop on Tuesdays, at 2pm.  This week's topic is Building Your Soft Skills. Registration required.  
  • Attention students interested in transferring to UVA. They host a virtual Information Session specifically for you. The next one will be this Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 12noon.
  • Mark your calendar for the VCW and the YMCA Job & Experience Fair on Saturday, November 20, 9am-1pm.  20+ employers plus community service resources will be available at the Brooks Family YMCA.  Registration requested - especially if you will need the FREE child care provided at the event!

Do you like working with people or animals?  Do you like doing accounting, administrative, or creative work?
  • Quite a few of the employers at this Thursday's Healthcare Careers Expo hire people who do administrative and accounting jobs. For example, UVA's Patient Access Associates are the people who do the scheduling and intake work when a patient arrives and Health Unit Coordinators are the ones who coordinate all of the information about patients that the doctors / nurses need to have happen on their behalf.  Attend to learn more about these opportunities at this informal event on Thursday, 11/11, 11am-1pm, Bolick Student Center.  UVA is now offering up to $3000 sign-on bonus with a 2-year signed contract for their Access Associate positions PLUS they now have part-time and full-time opportunities.
  • United Bank seeks a full-time, entry-level Teller at their main office at 1265 Seminole Trail. Monday – Friday 8:00 – 6:00, Sat 9:00 – 12:00 paying $15/hour. They get an early day if they work a Saturday.
  • Wells Fargo is hiring multiple full-time Personal Bankers paying $31-41,000 (with a max of $52,100) depending on experience.
  • WorldStrides seeks both an Account Manager for the Performing Arts and an Account Support Representative (for those who don't have as much experience). They also seek a full-time Lodging Fulfillment Manager for those who have experience wit hotels.
  • Yay Lunch is growing and they're looking for their first AP - Payroll Specialist. If you love the start-up world and love building out finance departments, then check them out!
  • Rare Book School seeks an organized, conscientious, and detail-oriented part-time Program Assistant to join the Programs department in facilitating excellent education programming. This position is for 10-15 hours/week and pays $15/hour.  
  • Apex Clean Energy has a full-time Multimedia Production Specialist opening. It would help if you're passionate about alternative energy.
  • Attention aspiring sophomores thru seniors undergraduate students interested in International Affairs. The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program is a six-week summer program designed to provide students with a deeper appreciation of current issues, trends and careers in international affairs. The Program covers the costs for tuition, travel, housing, and two meals per day. It also provides a stipend of $3,300. You must be a U.S. Citizen and have a 3.2+GPA. Apply between 10/29/21-2/15/22.
Do you like computers or doing other technical kinds of work?
  • Journey Group seeks a part-time (20 hours/ week) Web Design Intern to work the month of January paying $15/hour. They do some amazing work at Journey Group so this would add greatly to your portfolio (plus you'll learn from some of the best).
  • Climet Instruments Co. seeks a full-time Field Service Technician. This is a great opportunity for students/alumni in PVCC's electronics program.
  • Central Library seeks a full-time Technology Support Specialist paying $39,603.20 - $51,480.00 Annually (and great benefits). Apply by 11/19.  Don't let their preference for a bachelor's degree keep you from applying!
  • Siemens Energy is seeking candidates for their Manufacturing & Process Engineering Internship program. They currently have 4 open spots.   • AltEnergy seeks both a Sales Assistant and System Installers. They are a growing company (like most solar companies!).
  • PMG seeks full-time entry-level Machinists paying $25-30/hour (in case you don't know, PVCC students learn how to do CNC Machining as part of our Advanced Manufacturing program). They also posted for full-time entry-level Welders paying $26+/hour and Production Technicians paying $25/hour on College Central Network. 
Do you like cooking, skilled trades, hands-on, or outdoor/physical kinds of work?
  • Torchy's Tacos is opening in Charlottesville and is hiring for both front and back of the house positions (both full-time and part-time).  Apply online AND/OR be sure to talk with them on Tuesday, November 9, 10:30-12:30pm in PVCC's Student Center (and get some of their tasty chips and cheese at the same time).
  • Commonwise Senior Living seeks a full-time Maintenance Director. If you would like to talk with them in person, they will be at PVCC's Healthcare Careers Expo on Thursday, 11/11, 11am-1pm in the Bolick Student Center in the Main Campus Building.
  • Our Lady of Peace is hiring Dietary Aides, Housekeepers and Janitors.  Talk with them at Thursday's Healthcare Careers Expo OR call Norman at 434-973-1155.
  • Kroger at 1980 Rio Hill has job openings in the following departments paying $11.25 to start:  Starbucks, Cashiers, Pick-up, Deli and Produce. They offer flexible hours and tuition reimbursement.  Apply online or call Melanie at 434-978-1311 for more information.
  • Goodwin William Staffing seeks FT Carpenters for a job that pays $22-26/hour. They also posted for Dishwashers/Bus people which pays $15-17/hour and a Custodial position that pays $14-15/hour. Check them all out on CCN
