Update
The church is open in the mornings Tuesday-Saturday 10am-12pm.
Please wait to return to church if you have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last ten days or have new symptoms. We need to maintain the flow in our public spaces, particular the foyer and entrance lobby, which are not large enough to allow for circulation with a lot of space.
For the moment, we are using the weekly Updates as our rolling programme of events. Please do make sure to consult the latest Update for full details of any changes that may be necessary, or visit this link, where you will see a diary that is constantly updated and contains all the regular events as well.
The changes to the translation of the Act of Consecration of Man include the word ‘yea’, which both servers and priests’ say in the Act of Consecration of Man. From 28th November on, we will use the word ‘yes’.
We are now holding the Sunday Children’s Service fortnightly at 11.15am. Coffee is served on those Sundays and you are welcome to stay to meet others. Please help us by moving out of the foyer when the children gather from 11.10am.
We are looking for two more volunteers for the coffee rota. Please ask one of the priests, or Ria for more information.
With best wishes,
Nataliia and Tom

Kazimir Malevich, Black Square, 1929
|
|
It is from zero, in zero, that the true movement of being begins.
Kazimir Malevich
In 1915, Kazimir Malevich painted the first version of his Black Square.
The overflowing abundance of colour that had filled painting since human beings started to use pigment to colour their world has contracted into black. When Malevich first exhibited it, it caused some consternation. It came to be seen as the zero point of painting, and it fit with the general feeling that grew during and after the first world war, that an old world had come to an end and it was not yet clear how the new one would emerge.
In these weeks of November, our thoughts turn particularly to those who have died. The Book of Revelation speaks of how the dead shelter under the altar. A spatial indication such as this is an invitation to use our imagination: the altar is the vanishing point, the place where all the lines of perspective meet. Small as it may seem, it is the place from which a new world opens out. When the Book of Revelation goes on to speak of countless multitudes of the dead, we can imagine that they populate the country beyond the threshold. When in the Act of Consecration of Man we ask for their help, the threshold becomes transparent and we experience for moments the great Inversion: what has been suffered on earth ripens to blessing; what has been learned on earth ripens to wisdom, and what has been done by an individual on earth becomes the will to empower others.

November, December,
All Souls and All Saints,
The Dead come close,
As the veil between is thin.
Skies filled with Sparkle and Fire,
Mary, Joseph,
the path they lead
Others now also tread.
Hearts cradled with tenderness,
Feast to celebrate,
We Spiral
towards the Silence,
taking us forwards
to the Midnight Hour.
Mood of Blue,
With stillness.
