REMINDER: Are you in compliance with stormwater and wastewater regulations?  Are your records up to date?

Winter is a great time to make sure you are in compliance and all of your records are UP TO DATE! It is VERY important that you are keeping your pollution prevention plans and monitoring records current. If you have a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan (SPCC), safety data sheets (MSDS/SDS), or monitoring requirements at your facility, please take time in the fall/winter to review these documents, ensure record-keeping is happening, and update them accordingly. Take time to do a site inspection and ensure items are stored and labeled properly. Review the fact sheets below for helpful tips.

2021 Year in Review

Despite still being limited in outreach capacity, the Ohio Clean Marinas Program certified 4 new marinas and recertified 1 marina in 2021 to date. We are so appreciative of the support and dedication of our certified Clean Marinas - and we hope this image helps convey some of the incredible successes you should be proud of!

Invasive Species Webinar Series Recordings & Interest in AIS Events

The Ohio Clean Marinas Program, Ohio Sea Grant, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources partnered on a 5-week invasive species webinar series on a range of topics from prevention to awareness and ways Ohioans can become involved in community science. These and other webinars on environmental best practices can be used to count towards your certification! The webinars can be found on the ODNR You Tube page.

In 2022, we are interested in partnering with recreational boating facilities to host invasive species boat wash stations as part of the Great Lakes AIS Landing Blitz. Contact Sarah at orlando.42@osu.edu if you'd like to join us!

Have you considered green infrastructure at your marina?

Marinas offer a “last chance” opportunity to treat and manage stormwater runoff before it enters the Great Lakes. Clean Marina Programs provide education and technical assistance to help marinas implement stormwater improvements to keep our lakes clean. And we all know that clean lakes are good for business!

Using nature-based techniques, like green infrastructure, to manage stormwater at your marina can provide significant benefits such as minimizing water pollution into the lake, eliminating nuisance flooding, and improving aesthetics. Depending on the municipality, marinas could potentially also receive stormwater utility credits for the installation of green infrastructure.
