Hiya!

The end of November - it's Christmas next and 2022 is clearly on the horizon...where has 2021 gone?! All these Microsoft changes have made the time fly by!

There's more potential anti-trust trouble on the scene for Microsoft with a new complaint to the EU, this time from Nextcloud, about Microsoft bundling OneDrive and Teams with Windows 10/11. To be honest, it's not surprising - Microsoft are back at the top of their game in so many areas that, just as in the 90s, these situations are bound to occur.

While the concepts of bundling, "self-preferencing", and whether a company is abusing their dominant position (if they even have one) can be hard to define - this is definitely something to keep an eye on...particularly alongside the Slack complaint re: Teams.

See all the rest of the news below.

Have a good week 😁

Cheers
Rich

Power Apps - Pay As You Go

Microsoft have announced a new PAYG model for PowerApps where organisations pay on an "active user" basis i.e. people actually using the apps, rather than assigning per user licenses to those who might use them.

There is a $10 per active user per app plus costs for storage and, if needed, additional API requests.
This new billing method is done via Azure which means spend, budgeting, and tags can be controlled/viewed via Azure Cost Management in the porta. how the pricing is calculated.

Check it out here.

Microsoft Product Terms - November 2021

Microsoft made quite a few changes in the November Product Terms. We had new SKUs and/or info about:
  • Microsoft Viva
  • Microsoft Defender
  • PowerApps
  • Productivity Servers
  • Microsoft Industry Clouds
which preceded and supported some of the announcements at Ignite 2021.
The whole Viva family is now available, there are new security SKUs and name changes plus new industry cloud offerings for "Financial Services" and "Non-Profit".
More info here.

Microsoft change more security names

Microsoft have changed yet more security SKU names! Some are just swapping "Azure" for "Microsoft" i.e. "Microsoft Sentinel" and "Microsoft Defender for IoT" but a couple are more involved...and confusing:
  • "Microsoft Cloud App Security" is now "Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps"
  • "Azure Security Center" + "Azure Defender" are now "Microsoft Defender for Cloud"
I can definitely imagine those two getting confused by people at some point!

More Power Platform changes

As well as the PAYG pricing model above, Microsoft have made a couple more changes relating to PowerApps.
The first is that all per User and per App licenses of PowerApps and Power Automate will include AI Builder Credits (even those already purchased) and the second is an increase to API requests limits with Power Automate per User going from 5,000 per day to 40,000!
More info on the AI Builder credits here and the API requests here.

New SMB telephony SKU

Microsoft have announced the upcoming availability of "Teams Phone with Calling Plan", which will replace the SMB focused "Business Voice" SKU.

This will help expand Microsoft's telephony ambitions even further - something they're clearly keen to do! More info here.
