BLACK LION
Alive in the Wilderness by Sicelo Mbatha with Bridget Pitt
'A beautiful and enormously hopeful book- a powerful reminder of our connectedness with all beings, and a compelling invitation to enter the wild.' Julia Martin, author of The Blackridge House.
This is a remarkable and beautifully told story - both a memoir of Sicelo's childhood as a barefoot child growing up in Zululand and a philosophical reflection of man's relationship to nature, the lessons that we learn from hardship and most of all the importance of being connected to the flora and fauna of our fragile natural world. I was deeply moved by Sicelo's story and the lessons he taught himself whenever he suffered setbacks and hardship. Sicelo started off as a volunteer at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park and he kept detailed journeys of his close encounters with buffalo, lion , elephant and other animals . His encounters and his spiritual awakenings are beautifully captured.
Join me on the verandah as I chat to Sicelo Mbatha, Wilderness guide and philosopher.
