Mental Health Trust launch their first “Researching Together” newsletter

The Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust research team have launched the first edition of their quarterly online newsletter to keep you up to date on all of the research activity and projects. You can access the Autumn edition here. 

Ask me ANYTHING about pancreatic cancer webinar

The Cambridge Pancreatic Cancer Centre will be hosting a webinar for the public on Thursday 18 November 2021 between 9am and 10am to mark World Pancreatic Cancer Day. The webinar will be part of a variety of events and activities happening around the world to raise awareness of the condition, with a campaign also running on Twitter, using the hasthtag #WPCD.

You can submit questions to a panel of experts, which will include a medical oncologist, research group leader, surgeon, nurse specialist, dietician, physiotherapist as well as a pancreatic cancer survivor.

Everyone is welcome, but please note, you will need to register in advance to attend this free event.

Opportunity to be involved in updating the National Clinical Guidelines for Stroke

The Stroke Guideline Project Team at King’s College London are running a project to update the 2016 Royal College of Physicians National Clinical Guidelines for Stroke, which includes advice about research among other guidance. They would like to invite stroke survivors or their carers to apply to become a Public and Patient Voice (PPV) Representative. 

The role of the PPV Representatives is to attend meetings, help develop the guidelines and advise senior clinicians and experts in stroke care on patient issues to ensure that the patient voice is heard throughout the guidelines.

‘Understanding and interpreting a journal article’ with The Royal Papworth Hospital

The Royal Papworth Hospital and the University of Cambridge Library are pleased to invite members of the public to their popular online training session ‘Understanding and interpreting a journal article’ on the Tuesday 7 December 2021 at 11am.

This 45 minute online session (held via Microsoft Teams) will provide you with the basics needed to find, read and understand a journal article. The session is based around a paper of a published Royal Papworth study which you will be given the opportunity to read before, but this is optional and not an essential requirement of attending.

The Patient Led Research Hub are back to business as usual

The Patient Led Research Hub (PLRH) is a service in Cambridge that provides expertise to charities and patient groups to support patient-led research, including studies supported by the NIHR. The PLRH has spent much of the last 18 months supporting COVID-related work across Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, but their resources are now shifting back to patient-led research and co-production.

Volunteers needed for public panel for a study on stress, mood and bodyweight management

Researchers from the MRC Epidemiology Unit are looking for volunteers to join a public and patient involvement panel for a study on stress, mood and bodyweight management. 

The MRC research team are applying for funding to find ways to help people manage their stress and mood better to maintain weight loss. If their funding application is successful, you would be invited to provide further input as the project progresses.

Discussions will take place online and anyone who has past or current experience of trying to lose weight is welcome to join. If you are interested in joining the panel please email julia.mueller@mrc-epid.cam.ac.uk.  The deadline for applications is Wednesday 15 December 2021.
