Campaign to Save Churchill Sports Centre Steps Up

I had a chance to speak to loca residents about the future of Churchill Sports Centre.

The message was clear: The Council needs to take a decision on the future of this vital local asset.

I'll be asking for an update from the executive at tonight's meeting of the Full Council.

Listen to what residents had to say in the video below 👇

New School Safety Zone in Blagdon

I've been campaigning for the Council to improve safety for families crossing the road to get to Blagdon Primary School.

I'm really pleased to see action being taken, with the highways team having come out over the weekend to put new markings in place to remind drivers they need to slow down and pay particular care as they pass the school.

We've still got a lot to do to improve road safety in our villages, but this is a good start.
A38 Roadworks

North Somerset engineers will be carrying out overnight maintenance works on the A38 this week.

Works will start on Monday (8 November) for five nights. The road will be closed between 8pm and 6am from the junction with Ashey Lane to the junction to New Road.

Access to Bristol Airport and the Silver Zone car park will be via the southbound A38, from the Bristol direction only.
North Somerset Wins Funding Bid

North Somerset has won £2.8 million in cash from the Community Renewal Fund to support local projects.

The money will be used to support a range of work across North Somerset including:
🏆 Enabling thriving places project - to help use spaces differently and better including community-led housing, meanwhile uses on empty property, supporting high streets, work to support decarbonisation.
🏆 North Somerset community hubs - helping community groups to create a network of hubs to act as a focal point to deliver local services and provide spaces for people to meet together.
🏆 North Somerset works together project - an enhanced employment support scheme to help people access skills and training and get into jobs, especially in our most deprived areas.
🏆 Supporting business in North Somerset project - to deliver targeted training and skills support to business people and encourage new and startup businesses locally.
Patrick Takes on Movember Challenge

This year I am taking part in Movember to raise funds for mens' health charities.

Yes, I am going to look ridiculous (or perhaps incredibly suave) for a few weeks, but it's worth it to help tackle the things that are killing men - cancer and poor mental health.

Find out more - and fling me a few quid to help me reach my fundraising goal - here: https://uk.movember.com/donate/details?memberId=14694031
