OPENING MOVES 2 - Sat 27 Nov 5.30pm - 6.30pm  Following a successful event in September we are holding Opening Moves 2 this month with Pragna Das and Jenny Parrott sharing new ideas and inviting feedback/comments from the audience.

For the benefit of all attending numbers will be limited and seating will be socially distanced, mask wearing is optional/voluntary. Hand sanitiser is available
on entry to the building and the window/door will be open for ventilation
so please dress for autumn/winter. As a precaution we recommend you take a lateral flow test before attending the event. Please do not attend if you have any Covid 19 symptoms or feel unwell.

You are welcome to arrive from 5pm for social time, we have the space booked until 7pm this event is FREE to attend. Please book your seat in advance via Eventbrite

Independent Dance - 3-PHASE;

A winter lab with Rosemary Lee, Simonetta Alessandri, Yumino Seki

A three-day lab focusing on replenishment, listening to our bodies’ needs and feeling the support of the collective. Each day is led by a different artist - Rosemary Lee, Simonetta Alessandri and Yumino Seki - focusing on movement to transform and re-enliven the ways we bring attention to ourselves, others and environment. Sanctuary on the Fault Line - Rage is a Sane Reaction

3 day earth-wide gathering of women dancers to reorient dance through woman, rage + wildness. Live + online. + Chances for public to attend

Saturday 8th January – Monday 10th January

Live and online, connected in a shared space

Residentially at Out There Arts, The Drill Hall/House, York Rd, Great Yarmouth NR30 2LZ OR Remotely, via Zoom

Space Clarence Mews - Year of Making

Year of Making 2022 will offer the option of being a part of an in-person group of artists or a group that meets on zoom. It may be that there is a group which combines virtual elements and in-person elements. All artists will have the option of your own studio time (120, 60 or 0 hrs) or individual practice ‘skyroom’ ( 60, 30 or 0 sessions) and in person or zoom mentoring. You don’t have to be sure for now which mix of in-person and online you’d like to join, or how much studio / skyroom time you’d like.  Find out more and apply Deadline 26th November


The Place - Applications are open for MA Screendance Sep 2022 entry.

This trailblazing MA course examines movement on screen and investigates the possibilities of combining moving image and expanded choreography.

As a practice-led course, it embraces the hybrid nature of dance filmmaking and subjects it to critical investigation. Deadline for applications: Fri 8 April 2022, 12 noon. More info & apply here

CLASSES  & WORKSHOPS in OXFORD

Rivers of Life, Changing Seasons Sunday 28th Nov 2.00 - 4.00pm
Headington Hill Park, Oxford

Outdoor movement with Helen Edwards. Movement and stillness in the flow of life in nature. Finding relaxation, pausing for moments of recognition, rhythm, seasonal change and landscape; inner and outer.
Simple exploration of breath, body and free movement in this beautiful park, planted as an arboretum for Headington Hill Hall.

Helen says "We will be working towards the sunset. Please bring warm clothes, hot drinks, the park is a little hilly so good shoes too. Meet in the car park on Headington Hill just up from St Clements and the junction with Marston Road. Donations £10 for sharing time. Email Helen if you want to attend. 

I am also continuing to offer one to one sessions for movement exploration and witnessing for those who find this helpful, do let me know if you are interested."
 

Cafe Reason 

Café Reason offers regular open butoh classes and workshops. These sessions are suitable for all body types, ages, and levels of skill; no previous experience is necessary. There is a rotating pool of teachers, so that participants can benefit from different approaches to butoh training. Open class will run on the following Saturdays: Nov 27, Dec 11, Jan 8
10.00 am – 1.00 pm at Mortimer Hall in Old Marston, OX3 0PH, at a drop-in cost of £20/£15 per session. Contact via Cafe Reason website for more information and to book.
 

Justice in Motion - IN.MOTION Movement Workshop

Sunday 9th Jan 10am-5pm Cost £75 or £60 concessions

Open to all levels, the day is a balanced mix of dance, choreography, yoga and socialising in the relaxing surroundings of Wytham Village Hall.

Enjoy a yoga warm-up, dance class, choreography, myofascial release, a creative session and yoga nidra to cool down. Bring your own lunch and we’ll end the day with cake and hot drinks together.

Get rid of the stresses of life with a salve for the body and soul. Age range: Between ages 16 and 99. More information and booking

CALL OUTS & JOB OPPORTUNITIES

 

East Oxford Primary School are looking for a dance artist to teach two after school clubs (for KS2) between 3.20-4.20pm (the days are flexible).

The classes can be in either modern, contemporary or street dance. The children have, with the previous dance tutor, entered various local dance showcases etc and the school are hoping that this may continue. Fee approx. £30phr.

Swindon Dance Digital 4 – Commission Opportunity

Swindon Dance is thrilled to announce that our digital commission opportunities are open for 2022. Four dance artists/companies will be commissioned to create a digital piece, to be presented as part of the Online Platform. We are looking to commission 4 works in total, one appropriate for children and families, another that has a voice about the topic of identity, and 2 open commissions.

Each commission will receive £2,000 and support from the organisation. For more information about Digital 4 and how to apply please read the information that follows. 

CLOSING DATE: 10th December 2021

APPLICANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED: 17th December 2021

Delivery date: All commissions to be produced between January 2022 – September 2022 and presented September 2022-December 2022.

The Blueprint R&D fund offers artists support for research and development of new outdoor work, whilst our Creation & Touring Support for 2023 supports the creation and touring of new outdoor work in 2023. These are both fantastic opportunities for artists both new to and experienced in the outdoor arts to receive funding for new work. Click on links below for more information:

Oxford City Council 

Business support during covid - some grants have now closed. Check if you / your business is eligible for support here

The grants advice, fundraising guidance and support list on Oxford City Council website has recently been updated and worth checking out.


Arts Council England

National Lottery Project Grants - This fund has recently reopened with new guidance and criteria. You can apply for £1k - £100k. If you are applying for £30,000 or under, you will receive a decision in 8 weeks. If you are applying for over £30,000 a decision will take 12 weeks. You should read the guidance documents on their website before applying. 

Who can apply: Individual artists and practitioners, community and cultural organisations, museums and libraries.

What you can apply for: Arts, museums and libraries projects that engage people in England with creativity and culture. Key dates: National Lottery Project Grants is open all the time, there are no deadlines. 

Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP)

The fund supports creative practitioners thinking of taking their practice to the next stage to research, have time to create new work, travel, training, develop ideas, network or find mentoring. 

Funding activity: Research and development opportunities, building new networks, creating new work

Grant range: £2,000 - £10,000

Eligibility: Individual artists and/or creative practitioners. You can find full eligibility criteria in the guidance for applicants. Organisations cannot apply.

Applications for Round 12 is now open. Deadline for applications is 12pm (midday) 7 December 2021

Dance Professionals Fund - The Dancers’ Hardship Fund

Who can apply: Professional dancers. Support given to freelance dancers across genres including ballet, contemporary, Black and Asian dance and hip hop including those with portfolio careers, e.g. choreography, who whose work would normally include employment in the subsidised dance sector. The emergency Arts Council support grants have now ended but you can still apply for support from the Dance Professionals Fund
