In 2021 I began offering Virtual Classes and they were a huge success! What is a Virtual Class? It is a live interactive class that I teach via the internet using the Zoom platform for delivery of the content. All of this with live Q&A, multiple camera angles and streamed in HD to the comfort of your own shop.
The two classes offered were Steel String Voicing and French polish. These two subjects lend themselves well to distance learning and were taught in weekly two hour classes over a three week period. In the Voicing Class students learned how to select soundboard materials and then brace and voice those soundboards. The students had the option of sending me their tops for a final evaluation. With today's technology we were able to hear the acoustic change as students shaped their braces during the voicing process.
In the French polish class we learned everything from the history and types of shellac, surface prep, applying shellac using my modern approach technique and how to rub out a shellac finish to a gloss by hand and on a buffer as well as rubbing out to a satin sheen with wax.
