The Greater Springfield Association of Fundraising Professionals Awarded the YSCF with Outstanding Foundation
Thoughtfully Submitted by Kathryn Hitchcock, GSAFP Board Member
The Greater Springfield Association of Fundraising Professionals (GSAFP) is one of 241 chapters around the world who on National Philanthropy Day (NPD) “celebrate the world with a giving heart." The GSAFP held their day on November 10 to celebrate the important role of fundraisers in their communities. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life in our communities.
This year the “Outstanding Foundation” award went to the Yellow Springs Community Foundation for its exemplary leadership during the early and challenging months of the Covid-19 crisis. Under the leadership of the Executive Director, Jeannamarie Cox, with the staff, board, and many volunteers worked overtime to coordinate efforts on food, housing and support to businesses and other identified needs. Jeannamarie accepted the award at the event Wednesday noting that this was truly a collaborative effort among our community leaders and generous donors for which our work was made possible.
The “Outstanding Business” was the Springfield-based Conroy Funeral Home. Coming up on their 100th anniversary of service to the people of the greater Springfield area, they could have thrown a party. They decided instead to give $1,000 a week for 52 weeks to nonprofits in Clark County. This was in 2020 when non-profits were sorely challenged.
Our “Outstanding Individuals," Ed and Laurie Leventhal, have been lifelong philanthropists in the greater Springfield area. They have served on many boards and made a real difference in their community.
GSAFP’s mission is to empower individuals and organizations to practice ethical fundraising through professional education, networking, research, and advocacy.
All proceeds from NPD will go into a scholarship fund that provides membership, training, and conference sponsorships. We invest in opportunities for professional development, offer monthly programs with relevant topics, and hold an annual Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training in February 2022.
Don’t forget to thank a fundraiser!
The Foundation is greatly appreciative of the generous GSAFP Outstanding Nonprofit award on behalf of our Board of Trustees, donors, and community!
