The Past 30 Days or so...
News Summary: My amazing 17 weeks of online learning - two consecutive painting workshops with Louise Fletcher of North Yorkshire, UK - has finished - but of course, I have not "finished".  It has been such a part of my life that I forget not having to check my assignment or tune in to the Q&A anymore.  But I haven't stopped painting, just doing it at a slightly slower pace.  I'm getting my space ready for my Open Studio - all my new work, about 100 pieces (!) since Lockdown plus all my available photo art from pre-pandemic times.  I also signed up to participate in a Holiday Art Fair and rented a display wall at the SFWA Gallery for my "Intersection" squares in December - more on those next time.  I will have pieces in two San Francisco galleries in December.  Here's the new work and the event details . . .
If you remember from last month's news, I surprised myself by  breaking out in flowers  Here are four more.  I still don't know where they come from, but they are really fun to do, so here and there I will add to my "Fantasy Flowers" series.  Six left at this writing.  Acrylic on 140lb watercolor paper matted in 15" solid wood frames.  To view these and any of the following images individually and larger, visit my site at jessica-levant-art.square.site.
These three were the final output during my workshop.  I think I finally found the nerve to just be free and see where the paint took me.  A wonderful, scary, joyous experience with many stops and starts along the way.  Left to right they're called: Burst, Flight of the Bumblebee and Sunday Storm.  All are mounted on 12" cradled wood panels and will be floated in white frames that haven't arrived yet - ergo the digital mockups here.
These four 10" panels are all sporting the results of my frame-building endeavors.  I learned via YouTtube, bought a new miter box and wood at Home Depot, wasted some bad cuts, and eventually got the hang of it.  I have since found an affordable source and will probably not continue turning my bedroom into a woodshop.  Very satisfying though.  In another era I did build a bit of furniture and when I lived on a boat, I had lots of power tools.  All I have space for now is my cordless drill and orbital sander.  Frames are hard without a chop saw!
These three are the beginning of a series that will probably have several more in a solid bold color plus gold and fancy paper.  It also rounds out my output into three neet types of work: intuitive abstract, floral and decorative.  That's today's thinking anyway.  I'm sure you won't hold me to it.  I call these 'Deco Squares' and they are shallow 12" wooden panels, with painted sides and wired for hanging.  I would be happy to discuss other colors if these appeal to you.
My Open Studio - The Invite!
I've been finding new ways to exhibit my paintings in my apartment every day - On chairs, shelves, in front of the television, hanging from lamps and cabinet handles.  I'm trying to make as much visible as possible.  After 20 months of lockdown, there is A LOT OF NEW WORK!  If you are local, PLEASE PUT THE WEEKEND OF NOVEMBER 20 - 21st on your calendar and come take a look between noon & 5pm.  Browsing is fine - Below is just the living room!
Email me for the building address and the intercom code.  If  those time slots don't work for you, or if you'd rather see it all via zoom, you can pick your own time by visiting my appointment site, calendly.com/jessicalevantart.

If you know now that you plan to come, RSVP here now so I have some idea of numbers to plan for. Tell me your day and time preference, how many might be with you, if there is anything specific you want to see, or any other question.  On site: framed, unframed, matted, unmatted photo art, photographs, paintings, collages, mixed media, greeting cards loose and boxed. For what I hope are obvious reasons, please only come if you are vax'd and be prepared to stay masked if numbers indicate that would be wise.
Where else to see my art
From December 3 through the end of the year and possibly beyond, I'll have three pieces at North Beach's Live Worms Gallery, 1345 Grant Ave, San Francisco.  Open Wednesdays - Sundays.  Check with the gallery for holiday hours livewormsgallery@gmail.com

Beginning 12/7 I'll also have a wall in the Artist Salon of the SFWA Gallery, 647 Irving St, San Francisco.  I plan to display my 'Intersections' and 'Orbitals', colorful collaged 10" square panels that I created last year.  Very appropriate for holiday gifting - pretty, small & not fragile, so easily shippable.

As announced last month, I am a guest artist at Heartful Artists, which exhibits the work of selected artists in their curated online gallery.   Each two-month exhibit has only 2 - 6 artists so it's easy to see the featured work of each one and link back to their own sites to see more and get more information. You'll find my 'page' on their site here.  Subscribing to their quarterly newsletter is a great way to discover new artists.  Give it a try!  And follow them on Instagram

My music photo art continues to grace the walls of Burlingame's Broadway Grill which becomes a joyous jazz venue at least four nights a week.  Check their menu and music schedule at bwgrill.com
The standard finish!
MY WEBSITE - WHY DO I HAVE THREE?

1. Pretty much All of my artwork makes its way to jessicalevant.com -- you can browse, search, peruse information, dig through the newsletter archive, check out my blog ('News') and even peek at my travel pix (linked from the News page). In other words a huge site all about me!

2. Then there's my Online Store, jessica-levant-art.square.site which is for original, one-of-a-kind paintings and mixed media collages, framed (but if you want them unframed, ask me for the discount code) plus all the framed photo art that I actually have on hand now!  I will deliver within the SF Bay Area, or you can pick it up - curbside or in-studio as you like.  If you're further away, contact me and we'll talk about shipping.

3. But wait - there's more! There's my Print-on-Demand Site at jessica-levant.pixels.com  where all photo-based works and archival prints of some of my paintings and mixed media pieces, can be ordered in many different sizes, on a choice of papers, framed or not, or on canvas, metal, acrylic or wood, and then you can check out all manner of products printed with my artwork! This is a commercial platform where you order what you want and tell them where to ship it and it arrives (all without me lifting a finger).
THE CARDS ...
Box of 8 of my 'Painted Bird' 5x7" notecards (blank inside).  The left image is 'SF Shorebirds' and on the right is 'Rainforest Birds'.  Each clear box holds 2 sets of 4 different birds inside and 8 envelopes.  Order them here: Shorebirds or Rainforest. Local Delivery included. (If shipping is needed, that's a little extra).

NOTE: I make cards of much of my photo work and some of my paintings.  If there's something you'd like, singly or in quantity, boxed or not, please get in touch.  Most things are possible!
AND THE BOOKS ...
The two volumes of Bay Area Jazz and Bluesicians, with a total of 251 local musicians that I photographed while they performed are available on amazon.com (fastest way to get them) or online at www.bayareajazzandbluesicians.com (probably cheaper, and takes a week or so to receive them).  You can preview some of the pages on either site. Captured in 2013 and 2014, these books have become collectors' items, at least in certain local jazz circles.  75% of the included musicians are still performing in the Bay Area. The books can also be purchased at Bird & Beckett Books & Records  in San Francisco's Glen Park, or The Jazz Conservatory bookstore in Berkeley - or from me directly if you prefer.
Please forward this email if you think it would be of interest to anyone you know. And, of course, if you don't want to receive my nearly monthly announcements any longer, you can easily unsubscribe below.
