Trees to the Rescue!
The new Swiss Pine Facial Treatment got me thinking about trees and how they can help us. I have several types of tree essential oils at the shop and wanted to learn some more. Here is what I learned.
Swiss Pine is known for its expectorant and antibacterial properties but did you know that it is an excellent oil for sleep, relaxation, and deep breathing? Everyone always thinks of lavender for sleep but there are other EO (essential oils) that also help with sleep and relaxation. If lavender isn’t your jive, maybe look at some Swiss Pine. I could imagine that would help since, in a Japanese Study, forest bathing (basically walking in the woods) has been shown to decrease stress. Swiss Pine potentially can help stimulate circulation and may help calm inflammation and muscle tension. Swiss Pine is useful for anyone who needs grounding. Calming and clearing to the mind. I don’t know about you but I feel like I could swim in it right now!
Blends well with almost anything! Bergamot, Cedarwood, Citronella, Clary Sage, Coriander, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon, Marjoram, Myrrh, Niaouli, Neroli, Peppermint, Ravensara, Rosemary, Sage, Sandalwood, Spikenard, Tea Tree, and Thyme.
White Birch is from the Betula Alba species of the birch tree and has been used as a skin tonic and brightener. It is believed that Native Americans used the inner bark of the birch tree as an infusion and flavorful tonic tea.
Blends well with Jasmine, Sandalwood, and Rosemary
Cedar is used in the making of chests or hangers to keep bugs, especially months, away from clothes and linens so they don’t destroy the items. The ancient Egyptians began using cedar for embalming and also for cosmetics and perfumery.
Cedar can be used to uplift, calm, and soothe out tension and anxiety, leaving you with a feeling of peace. I tend to use this in my diffuser at the shop, sometimes on its own and sometimes mixed with other EO.
Blends well with Ylang Ylang, Chamomile, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Clary Sage, Juniper, Rosemary, and Cypress
French Oak is the secret ingredient that makes wine taste even better, or so I have been told. Unfortunately, wine gives me terrible headaches. Did you know the Romans were the first people to start making wine in oak barrels? So what is it good for, you ask? Well, it seems like it is good for fatigue, stress, burn out just to name a few.
Blends well with Juniper Berry, Cedarwood, Eucalyptus, or Ginger.
I think I am going to need to make a spray using all my tree oils!
