First off – THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to our October social campaign “We Stand Together – E Tū Tāngata” – we were thrilled with the response and have loved getting to know more of our families. Whilst we would have loved to celebrate in person, seeing your faces and hearing your stories has made lockdown just a little lighter... we hope you feel the same. Check out our video below to commemorate ADSA's World DS month, and a HUGE thank you to Paula for running our campaign and creating the video. You're a ⭐. Enjoy!!

Success in School course – March 2022

Registrations for our March 2022 Success in School course are now open and you can register via our website. This 2-day course is always popular and valuable for teachers, teacher aids, SENCOs and extended whānau. If you have a child starting school soon, or already at school we encourage you to attend, and most importantly, encourage your school to attend also. Course dates are Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 March 2022, with a central Auckland venue TBC.

Counselling support for our community

It's certainly been a tough few months for our community with the tragic death of Lena Zhang Harrap occurring during Auckland's longest lockdown. We recognise that many are struggling, and have collaborated with UpsideDowns and the New Zealand Down Syndrome Associationto to offer our members a free online counselling session between now and the end of December 2021. Full details regarding the counselling offered and how to access a session can be found here. This initiative has been generously funded by Foundation North.
Golden Years resource from NZDSA

As part of their 40th Birthday Celebrations, NZDSA presented a digital resource 'The Golden Years, Ageing with Down Syndrome'. Presented by expert Geraldine Whatnell, this video discusses how ageing may affect health and wellbeing for those with DS, and offers support suggestions for those diagnosed with dementia. The video is available to download and watch on the NZDSA website here.

Do you have an Olympian in your household?

A perfect way to have some fun, burn off some energy and make new friends.
And finally...

We're putting the final touches to Outlook magazine and aiming to get it in the post mid November. 🤞 So if you've moved house recently, (or maybe not even that recently) then please get in touch with Rosie on adminsupport@adsa.org.nz so we can update our database. We always love to hear from you... so don't be a stranger. Even though we are working altered hours during lockdown we are available to assist – so please do reach out if you need to.

PS – keep an eye on your mailbox towards the end of the month. 🧡
Please email Rosie on adminsupport@adsa.org.nz or Paula on clo@adsa.org.nz if you have any questions regarding the events and news highlighted in this update.
