The Soil Food Web: What, Why, and How
George Debs is a Designer, Permaculture Practitioner, and Soil Enthusiast. He has been in South Florida for over four years after having traveled cultivating his professional and practical repertoire in Europe, Australia, and Lebanon, where he was born and raised.
George's primary passion lies in ecological design through regenerative agriculture. This path led him to training under Permaculture Legend, Geoff Lawton, and ultimately volunteering at the Permaculture Research Institute in Australia. Most recently, he has been training under renowed Soil Scientist Dr. Elaine Ingham as a Soil Food Web Lab Technician, alongside working as a Landscape Designer at Cadence.
Often George can be found collecting samples on hikes, which he observes with a microscope to study the relationships between soil health and plant communities.
His presentation will cover several topics like:
- What is the Soil Food Web, and why is it important?
- Ecological Succession, and how that works in a garden
- Troubleshooting some common pest issues
- What you can do in your garden to achieve better results and contribute to a healthier planet!
Join us as we dive into the microscopic world beneath our feet, and learn some practical steps we all can take to build a deeper connection with the world around us by regenerating Soils.
To protect the health of the guests and employees from exposure to COVID-19, a new County Administrative Policy requires everyone to wear a facial covering and practice social distancing inside Broward County park buildings. Members are encouraged to bring a snack or treat to share.
