This Week's Spotlights

Time Change Reminder
Daylight Savings is this Sunday.  Please remember to fall back!
A Word from the Stewardship Team
Thank you to all that have turned in pledge cards.  Your generosity is appreciated and helps us plan better for the coming year.  There is still time to turn in your pledge cards!  Click here to view and print. You can turn your card into the office or you can mail it in.
Policy Concerns from Your Pastors
We remain committed to caring for our neighbor:
Let's stay vigilant in our efforts to protect our community.  Please remember that any person over the age of two must “mask up” before entering our building, regardless of vaccination status, and remain masked for the duration of your stay in the building.  Masks are available if needed.
We are all called to the ministries of serving, caring, and connecting with one another safely. As Delta surges continue, may we change more and more into the likeness of Jesus.
Year End Tax Planning Tips
Year End Tax Planning tips! Did you know that if you are 72 years old you are required to take a minimum distribution from your IRA and pay taxes on some or all of that distribution? However, you can avoid that tax by having those funds distributed directly to a qualifying charity. Donations of stock have the added benefit of giving you a tax deduction based on what the stock is selling for on the date of the gift, not what you paid for it. Finally, any prepayment of 2022 pledges could have an impact on your Tax Year 2021 tax situation. If you know you will be able to itemize your deductions for Tax Year 2021 and may not for 2022, consider prepaying a portion of your pledge. If you have any questions about these donation methods, please reach out to our Business Manager, Matthew Smith at business@linworthumc.org.

Thanksgiving Offering
Each year, LUMC invites our church family to contribute toward a special Thanksgiving Offering, which benefits the "In Our Own Backyard" mission fund. This fund supports ministries and outreach efforts that are nearby, in our local area: Smoky Row Food Pantry, NNEMAP Food Pantry, IMPACT at Claremont, and others. We appreciate your ongoing support in this unique season! You can contribute at here or by writing a check to the church with "Thanksgiving Offering" in the memo line. If you have any questions, please contact the church office.

Virtual Early Response Team Class

West Ohio to Hold Virtual
ERT Basic Class
Interested in learning how to respond with compassion to natural disasters across the U.S.? West Ohio will be hosting a virtual Early Response Team Basic Class to train new responders in providing a caring Christian presence in the aftermath of a disaster.
This virtual class will be taught by UMCOR-certified West Ohio ERT trainers and held over two days: November 19, 6:00-9:00pm; and November 20, 9:00am - 2:00pm. You must attend both sessions. Cost of the class is $30. A background check is required. For registration and further instructions, click here.

Cards for Christ Ministry
You are invited to share the love of God this Christmas Season so that every incarcerated individual in our state receives at least one card reminding them that they are loved.  Please pay attention to the guidelines for this ministry.   Pick up a box of Christmas Cards and share the love of God with others this Advent.  We had about 500 cards given from our church last year.  It would be amazing if we could double that and gift 1,000 cards this year!
Your card may offer a glimmer of hope in someone's time of need.  You are welcome to follow the Facebook Group "Cards From Christ" for updates from the ministry organizers.   You may drop off your cards at the Church office between 830 and 430 during the week or on Sunday mornings.  Contact Pastor Sara at pastorsara@linworthumc.org with any questions.  Cards need to be dropped off at LUMC by Tuesday Nov 28th.

Alternate Gift Market

What IS an Alternative Gift Market? It is a different kind of shopping experience. Gifts are purchased in honor of family members and friends. Instead of buying another tie for Uncle Fred or another stuffed animal for your grandson, you might decide to provide tuition and supplies to allow a child in Laos to attend school, or purchase the nails to build a house for a needy family in Columbus. Then you receive a card telling your family member or friend about this unique present given in their honor.
Why are there Alternative Gift Markets? Many of the world’s critical needs today are going unmet. They are a celebration of abundant life for all of the people in the world. They are an appropriate non-profit response to consumerism. They can nourish peace in our local and global neighborhood.
How do you do it? You may pick up your Alternative Gift Market shopping list at a table in the narthex any Sunday in November. Complete the form and place it with your check in the offering baskets at the rear of the sanctuary, or mail them to the church office. You may also give digitally by clicking here.
You can make a WORLD of difference this Christmas!
