VOTE NO ON PROP A

We're down to the home stretch, and while we all find ourselves short of breath, now is the time to push to the finish line. Tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 2nd history will be made, and your vote will make a difference.

"This is a historic vote. It will set the budgetary, social, and political landscape of Austin for years to come. Prop A was born from a desire to reinforce the status quo of policing and violence against black and brown bodies. It's a backlash to the will of Austinites to reckon with the intersection of policing and white supremacy and to make the city budget a moral document that addresses that harm by diverting funds to social services and community-based safety strategies. If Prop A passes, it will put Austin on an irreversible path to more incarceration and police violence.

Prop A is a slap in the face to all of us who marched in 2020, yelling, "This must end!" If you called city council and proclaimed, "How will history look back on your vote to reimagine safety?" now the decision is yours. It's up to Austinites to commit to this shift towards reimagining safety on Tuesday."

- Senior Policy Director, Sukyi McMahon and Policy Director, Chris Harris

Bro Brunch

November 7th, 2:30 PM

Bro Brunch is a new Austin Justice Coalition effort to build and strengthen community amongst Black men. Bro Brunch is, "A safe space for black men to keep it 100." Organized as a series of quarterly brunches, Bro Brunch aims to provide a safe space for Black men to be vulnerable without scrutiny and build community.

Stemming from the need for Black mental health safe havens, envisioned and led by our Community Organizer, D. Dallas, and Executive Director, Chas Moore, some of Bro Brunch’s goals are to:

  • Build and strengthen relationships with all who identify as black men
  • Provide practical communication skills
  • Build and strengthen inter-generational and peer support networks
  • Uplift and normalize mental health practices

This Bro Brunch will be catered by: Chef Saul Cooper and "Salt Kitchen", a culinary program for formerly incarcerated youth created by Jail To Jobs and features guest DJ Hella Yella!

Does this gift have the power to bring Poncia back from the emotional vacuum and absolute solitude that has overtaken her in the city?
