NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER 2021

MARY ZERAN STUDIO

Happy November Everyone!

Sadness and joy. We've experienced it all this autumn.

Many of you know besides art, my family is the most important thing in my life. Sadly, our dear friend and family member Henry Boydog passed away the last week of August. Less than a month later, we welcomed the above little firecracker/ Betty to the family. We had hoped Henry would be around to help welcome and teach Betty about being a dog, but that wasn't in the plan.

Since then, life is a blur. In addition to puppy wrangling. My very young husband is in the process of getting cataract surgery. Science is a wonderful thing. He's gone from almost legally blind to being able to see me from across the table without glasses in his right eye. I'm blurry, but we'll take it! He gets the left eye done this Friday. There's no stopping him now.

Even though life's been heavy on the family stuff. I've managed to make art. Next month I'll have more pieces to share.

In the meantime, there's been a lot of good things happening. Scroll down to read about a new exhibit, a museum acquisition, and my upcoming solo show.

I hope you all have a restful, joyful November. Happy Thanksgiving in advance.

Onward!!!!

Mary

My piece "Breathe Through This #I, II, III" is included in an exhibition at Cedar Rapids Museum of Art:

Abstract Ideas: Abstract Art from the Collection

October 23, 2021-October 9, 2022

Culled from CRMA’s collection of works created after 1950, Abstract Ideas explores the potential of abstraction in the hands of post-World War II artists.  In some cases, the subject matter has been only slightly abstracted, diverging only a little from the way they appear in nature.  In other cases, artists have moved completely away from any recognizable object in pursuit of more emotional or intellectual goals.  In all cases, however, artists maintained their relationship to and dialogue with the fundamental properties of art such as balance, form, line, color, and rhythm.  Investigating the various degrees of abstraction found in modern paintings and sculpture, this exhibition presents a diverse group of works, each of which operates on different emotional and intellectual levels.

My piece "The Beauty of it All #2" was recently acquired for the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art's permanent collection.

Save the Date! My the reception for my upcoming solo show is Friday, December 3rd. Gilded Pear Gallery always puts on a really fun party. Since we didn't have a live opening last year, I hope you can attend. I've missed you!
