November 2021: Morris Township Election Update
Disclaimer: This is a personal communication from Jeff Grayzel and does not represent an official communication from our local government or any other local authority.

Hello Neighbors,
If you are receiving this email you have likely been receiving my "Morris Township Updates" newsletter for many years. If you are new to this list you can find my old newsletters on my website.

For many, many years I have worked hard to keep the community informed about the issues in Morris Township. As I knocked on people's doors the past few months many people told me that this newsletter is the only way that they keep in touch with what goes on in town.

Some of you know me as your mayor or from serving on our Township Committee for nine years. Others may know me from coaching your kids in baseball or soccer. And some of you met me from knocking on doors all over town for many years trying to meet all the residents of our community (a monumental task, but I am trying!).

This year I am taking my experience as an engineer and as mayor of a town of almost 25,000 residents to be a candidate for State Senate in Legislative District 25. You can see all the towns in LD25 HERE.

Asking for Your Vote
I have supported the community for many years, and today I am seeking your support. I am asking for your vote in tomorrow's election.

Read about why I am running HERE.

I am an engineer (Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering) that takes a problem-solving solutions-oriented approach to running our town. New Jersey has a lot of problems to solve and our statehouse in Trenton could use some engineering skills to help fix our state!

But I also know that I do not have all the answers. That’s why we have created a new Transportation Advisory Committee a new Senior Citizens Advisory Committee and recreated our Economic Development Advisory Committee and our Environmental Commission. Citizen involvement in how our town is run brings many more great ideas to the forefront. That approach is also needed in Trenton where we need fresh ideas to solve some of our biggest problems.

Since becoming Mayor of Morris Township in 2019 I have led our municipality to many great achievements. The results speak for themselves. See the tremendous list of accomplishments below!

Now, new businesses are looking to make Morris Township their home. A good commercial tax base takes pressure off our residential taxes. This influx of new business will help stabilize taxes for years to come. I want to bring that same business climate to NJ and bring more businesses back to our state.

Help elect Jeff Grayzel to represent you as your State Senator in Trenton. Please vote tomorrow!

2019-2021 Accomplishments

In the past three years since I became Mayor in 2019, the Morris Township Committee has had numerous accomplishments. Here are just a few of them:

  • Expanding our network of sidewalks:
-- A new sidewalk on James Street now connects a large neighborhood to downtown Morristown so residents can safely walk into town.

-- Funding allocated and engineering plans in the works for a new sidewalk along Sussex Avenue that will extend from Patriots path all the way to Morristown border, connecting residents to our Streeter recreation facility and a safe path into Morristown.

-- Several other sidewalk projects coming in 2022 including Sherman Avenue, Gregory Avenue, Kennedy Road, and a section of Woodland Avenue adjacent Old Glen Road.

  • Improving our municipal infrastructure with several major roadway reconstruction projects – with several more already funded for next year.

  • A traffic calming policy adopted so that we can finally start implementing measures to slow down cars cutting through our neighborhoods.

  • Adoption of a forward-thinking ordinance that requires installation of electronic-vehicle charging stations at all new commercial development. We now have approval four 10 locations across our town for EV-charging including town hall and Streeter Pool.

  • A thriving community garden on Picatinny Road.

  • Protecting our environment by introducing the Township’s single-use plastic bag and uncontained bamboo bans.

  • Renovating Convent Station waiting rooms for commuters .

  • Preserving additional lands for open space.

  • Open and responsive local government that communicates more and seeks input from residents prior to decision-making.

  • Working with surrounding communities to share services, reduce our costs and lower taxes.

  • Keeping our local tax rate stable in Morris Township.

  • Updating and implementing several new land-use ordinances to better define the OS/GU zone, create new guidelines for building school and houses of worship, and adopting design standards to ensure that all new construction meets certain quality guidelines.

  • Establishing a transportation advisory committee focused on improving travel, circulation and transportation modes including walking, biking, driving, and parking.

  • Establishing a senior citizen advisory committee to make recommendations to the Township Committee regarding the needs of senior citizens and assist in fulfilling those needs.

  • Reinvigorating the Economic Development Advisory Committee which just completed the first phase of a visioning process for the future of the Madison Avenue corridor.

  • Bringing great businesses to our town to provide a significant long-term commercial tax base:
-- Restoration Hardware transforming The Abbey mansion on Madison Avenue to become his show room with an adjacent Restaurant.

-- Financial services firm CIT Group making Morris Township their headquarters at 340 Mount Kimble Ave.

-- Marketplace Mall (under construction) on Hanover Avenue has transformed the standard NJ strip mall to a destination for residents with two pedestrian plazas and a pocket park for children.

-- AND just last week the Red Bulls soccer team announced that they would like to make Morris Township the home of their new state-of-the-art training facility at the former Honeywell site.

One might say we are “kickin’ it!” here in Morris Township. As you can see, we are certainly getting lots of things done.

Now I would like to take those same leadership skills to Trenton as your next State Senator.
