The Drawing and Painting
First Ever Newsletter
Winter Edition

December 2021

Dear parents, friends, and fellow community members,

Hello, from the art teachers at Black Forest Academy!

Over the years, we teachers have realized just how special it is to get the opportunity to witness every step of a student's artistic growth and journey. It has become our desire to share more of the student's works and class projects with those who know and love these students.

Please enjoy this fall edition highlighting BFA's Drawing and Painting classes, as well as our AP Studio Art class. We hope it provides some refreshing content to your inboxes as we provide glimpses into your student's/friend's/child's creative practice!

Drawing and Painting 1

The Drawing and Painting 1 class learns from Mrs Skidmore how to properly shade a sphere. Students carefully render a full range of values, using one HB pencil and a kneaded eraser.
Hezekiah Woodard's explorations of texture; made with various ink pens.
Student shades their sphere using value shapes and a steady hand.
The beginning of a fabric still life drawing.
Hard at work on their fabric still life drawings, while "BFA Cat" gets some cuddles.

Drawing and Painting 2

Each student in AP develops a unified series of about 12 pieces. Below is a glimpse into each of their topics and work.

Naomi Boyd uses watercolor and ink pen to explore how music can help us cope with mental health battles.
Thea Heymann uses watercolor, gel and ink pen to describe how it feels to grow up as an autistic child.
Lauren Stevens uses watercolor and ink pen to illustrate saying goodbye to guilt.
Josh Martin uses oil paints to portray the fluidity, simplicity, and pure beauty of water.
Kayra Jensen uses pencil and collage to speak about tensions within our identity.
