Halloween Recap

The students had a great time last week participating in the Allenby pumpkin contest, and we even managed to squeeze in a little science learning along the way as we discussed quantitative and qualitative data! Head over to Twitter to check out the photos of our class submissions. We also got a head start on November's theme of kindness by "BOO-ing" several other classes and even Mrs. O'Toole with small gifts and treats! Thank you so much to all families who sent in pumpkins, tablecloths, carving tools, and candy to make it a special week for our students. Thank you also to our class APA Rep, Luigi Pedretti for getting it all organized for us. All of your support is greatly appreciated!

'Tis The Season... For Indoor Shoes!

Please send a pair of shoes to school with your child that they can wear indoors in the classroom and when they visit the gym. Students will be asked to keep their shoes in the classroom at the end of the day. Even if your child is not wearing boots to school daily, we ask that they please change their shoes when they arrive each day. This helps keep our floors free of mud and is much appreciated. Thank you!

Homework

Given that we are not using a paper agenda this year, it is important that students check Google Classroom regularly as small amounts of homework will be assigned throughout the week. If a task is to be completed as homework, students will see a reminder posted in the "stream" on Google Classroom (similar to a newsfeed). Homework will generally consist of finishing up work from class, some work on special projects, or posting reflections on learning from the day. There may also be other reminders posted about library books, special events, etc., so it is helpful for students to have this as part of their routine when they arrive home from school.

Daily Home Reading

Students are expected to read for a minimum of 30 minutes at home each day. Please help them to establish this routine and encourage reading in French. I have provided a selection of French novels in the classroom that children may borrow, and we also visit the library weekly for book exchange, where students are permitted to borrow up to 5 books on their accounts. We have a large and very current collection of French reading material and I point out appropriate selections to students as they are browsing in the library.

If you wish to purchase books for your child through the Scholastic reading program, please our class code, RC208042. A portion of your sales are donated to the classroom to purchase additional materials for students. Monthly flyers are available online.
