Hi <<First Name>>,

It’s been another full month of growth and building connections at Phoenix Modern. We’ve welcomed some new families and launched several new quests throughout the studios (see below).

We’ve also launched Friday community assemblies for two studios at a time to make further connections between studios and discuss what it means to be a thriving Phoenix Modern learner.

At lunch time, we’ve seen learners enjoying a great book, drawing or simply finding some rest in our newly curated calm spaces in our front hub. In the center hub, we’ve seen engagement in building, game play, shaping play dough and various other forms of artistic creations. Outdoors, learners continue to practice their soccer skills and explore the natural landscape as flowers bloom and our first fruits emerge.

In our studios, learners are now working towards personal goals in their learning while also further establishing how to work together as a community to make decisions and solve real problems.

As we go forward, we look to you as partners in this mission. Our children’s growth and flourishing requires us all to work together. Please see below for some opportunities to share your time, talents, and treasures with our community in the coming months.

1. Pictures from around campus

Learners see themselves as researchers and investigators through intentionally curated experiments. Real learning happens when learners are curious and engaged.

We strive to infuse joy and wonder into "school" every single day. The last few weeks we have had so much fun celebrating fall with our Phoenix Modern community. More joy to come as we continue to explore our planet and ancient civilizations.

2. Save the dates

3. Insight into Phoenix Modern

With this new session, comes new investigations and wonderings. Here’s a look into our current quests.

Octopus, Tiny Panthers, and Pandas

The guiding question for the quest in primary studios is " How can we help our planet?".  Learners in the foundation studio focus on water, its movement through seasons, and human impact on this valuable resource. Level 1-2 learners are discovering the origins of waste and the connection between natural resources and sustainability. Level 2-3 studio is investigating how human activity impacts the environment and what actions can we take to minimize the negative outcomes.

Red Pandas and Lionfish

Our elementary studios are investigating how we can uncover the past through the lens of an archeologist. Learners have begun their junior archeologist training in preparation for visiting an archeological site and will use their new skills and interests to learn about Mezoamerican civilizations, which includes the historical region and cultural area of southern North America and most of Central America.

Cuttlefish

Our oldest studio is wondering how asking big questions about our universe can help us understand our present and inform our future. They are also asking why we look at things close up and far away; how and why people change their minds; and how can looking at the same information from different perspectives pave the way for progress.

4. Important news, updates, and requests

We are applying new designs for the use of time, people, and physical space that will continue to dramatically change the way we think about the learning experience of children.

This hard work takes an entire village and we have several opportunities for you to support us in this work. We currently have 3 simple ways you can give:

Give your resources. Gifts of all sizes make a difference in supporting powerful learning experiences for children, necessary staff support, engaging materials, beautiful learning spaces, and many more enrichment opportunities.

  • Arizona law allows for couples to donate up to $400 and single taxpayers up to $200 each year and claim a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for contributions made to public schools.
Take the credit and give your tax dollars.

Give your time. Inspire tomorrow's leaders, spread kindness, or lend a hand in our math, reading, and writing workshops, among other helpful opportunities to volunteer your time.

Give your talents. We all have talents, and we’d love for you to share yours with children.

We look forward to seeing you,
Phoenix Modern Team
