Sharon Wilson and Miguel Escoto have inspected hundreds of oil and gas production operations in the United States' largest oil producing region, Texas and New Mexico's Permian Basin. The Permian is also where the U.S. largest oil production increase is forecast even as it's ever more clear that we need to end our reliance on fossil fuels. Wilson is a certified optical gas imaging thermographer whose FLIR GF320 camera makes visible normally invisible methane pollution -- and in the process demonstrates how existing oversight of oil and gas is failing to reduce methane emissions even as companies promise cleaner operations.
John Beard, a former Exxon employee, lives with the impacts of downstream oil and gas pollution on the Texas Gulf Coast.
